I think when Bennett Koch is a senior they'll have a good year.
So.....
When that happens, Evansville will have cycled back to being bad and the Valley will still suck.
And the Bears will still be broke.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that. Jake white's transfer resulted in a standout senior season in a conference that is a step up from the MVC. I must admit I never would have seen that coming.
The Summit only has nine teams. Their 7, 8, 9 teams are slightly better than the Valley's 7, 8, 9 and they have no Bradley dragging the anchor at 300+ RPI. There's really no team there that would continually make the Valley better. UNO might be a team in the future, but right now, they haven't been around long enough to tell.
There isn't a lot to wrap your head around. You have a team in Missouri that is broke, a team in Chicago that plays in a high school gym and a team in Des Moines that might as well not exist. UNI has won in the past with smoke and mirrors, but with the flop no longer being called, well, they either shoot 50% from three or lose. Indiana State is the number three public school in their state, number six overall in Indiana, you get the drift... Bradley is lost, on and on and on and on. When Evansville, coached by Marty Simmons is your number two team in the conference. welI, overall, the Summit is a better league. Wichita State and Gonzaga have something in common, great programs in crappy leagues.
The Summit is not a good league, but better than the Valley.
Who in addition to WSU does the Valley have that compares to a BYU and the last 12 or so years of St Mary's? I'd take two teams like those for the Valley in a heartbeat. Normally, those three teams will pull the rest up three of so notches in conference RPI, but, like the Valley, their bottom is bad.

Brilliant scheduling putting 2 Valley games up against the NFL Conference Championship days. At least they had the good sense not to schedule any games up against the Super Bowl.
Curious to see how they do from here out. They are just flat out better than most of the teams left on their schedule, so I'm sure they'll rack up mostly wins. But going undefeated was really all they had to play for.
Also curious how they are treated by voters. They may be punished more than other teams in their situation.
Pursuit of Perfection for a team sanctioned by the NCAA as ineligible for post-season play seems oxymoronic to me. Clearly there is something this team has not done perfectly.
