Paul worked hard to ultimately become a POY in the Valley. He then, would be Ron Baker good. That is a lot of ifs but that would be worth a scholarship for a couple of years.

Someone please save my comment here so I can eat several helpings of crow...but holy cow are some of us off the reservation to leap to the idea Barney could be the kind of contributor to earn a scholy in a couple of years. People if that happens it means 3G is no longer here and so many players have left the program and recruiting reverted back to the 90's. In theory recruiting 4-star players is becoming the norm here. Those 4-star players aren't going to get beat out by Barney...sorry. I love the kid for what he is...a very good walk-on...period. Oh, by the way, I'm excited about Nurger going forward.

When Paul Miller came, he was rated a 3 star but he wasn't even close to ready to be a contributor on this squad. He wouldn't have made it here now on this squad. However, after four years, Paul was at least a 4 star and when compared to a freshman recruit, he was much more valuable. If he would have been redshirted, he would have given us two years of great play.

Quite frankly, all that has to happen to prove you wrong is for us to whiff on a couple recruits and end up with one unused scholarship in any given year, at which point it would just default to a walk-on. As we recruit more 4-star players, the chances of whiffing and having an open scholarship at the end of the year increases.Originally posted by BleacherReportFred VanVleet on Shockers' 3-Pt Shooting Confidence -- ' Honestly, I just tell these guys to let their nuts hang.'

All I know is that there aren't alot of 6'9 guys running around. Who knows if Barney gains about 20 to 25 pounds of muscle and continues to work hard he may be a contributer by his junior yr. He seems to have good hands and has basketball skills. You never know when someone like him may be needed due to injuries and maybe missing out on some big time 6'10 recruit. But its still nice to have him willing to walk on and work hard to make the team a better team by playing on the scout team. I think were all in agreement that Nurger could be a stud by the time he's a junior.
