Since I like to share inside info, I will tell you WSU made sure their top supporters were taken care of. The top supporters of the Men's Basketball program were contacted and able to purchase up to 6 tickets apiece before they went on sale Tuesday. Those who logged in right at 10:00 would have noticed most of 116 taken already along with prime seats in the other 4 center court sections (not including 103 which is club seats)

Isn't that absolutely ridiculous? They are charging about $10 per ticket to allow you to sign in to a system that doesn't require any direct staff and give them your credit card so they can email you a ticket you have to print. The only cost they have will be the system creation, purchase, maintenance IT type stuff. Meanwhile, if you opt to have one of their employees print off your ticket in their office and physically mail you your tickets, it's practically free. Or if you opt to have one of their employees sit idly at a desk for 8 hours waiting for you to come pick up your tickets in person, it's practically free. Those are things that still require a computer system, office space and physical staff and they are practically free. The system that requires none of that whatsoever is $10 per ticket, not per order :)

If I buy 20 tickets, I will pay $200 to print them off in my house on my printer...

When I pay my water bill on the wichita city website, their fee is $1.00

      • The convenience fee thing isn't about the convenience of the arena. It's about the convenience to you. If it is inconvenient for you to purchase tickets directly at the place they are being sold, then you'll pay for it. This isn't new and not sole to the ticketing industry. It's an area where they pad the bottom line for the ticketing agency who doesn't have as large of margins when selling it without the fees. Thankfully, unlike other forms of purchasing things, you have an option to avoid it. It may be inconvenient for you, but there is an option. And if you don't live in Sedgwick County and grumpy about the distance, at least you didn't have the burden of paying an additional sales tax for 3 years and still access the arena.

I think the fees get a little crazy too but at least you have the option to avoid them. It just depends how convenient it is or isn't for you and whether the cost outweighs the inconvenience.

Completely agree, there were still row AA seats available in the 65 dollar sections at 10 AM on Tuesday.

That's highway robbery. I could understand $4-$5, but $9 is way out of line. That may be a deal-breaker for me, partly out of principle.

I'm aware of why and how it works. I still think it's a little steep for people who buy many tickets at once. Sometimes it's okay to admit when something looks like a bit of a gouge. I absolutely think there should be fees to keep their system up and able to serve all...even to pad their bottom line a little. I just think when a fee becomes almost as significantly a part of the profitability beyond the tickets themselves, it should be in moderation.

It's kind of like when I'm shopping on eBay and find a book for $0.50 but the shipping is $25.00

While I agree it is steep, don't let an extra $10-20 keep you away from the game against the best home opponent for one of the (if not the very) best teams in WSU history. If people can at all afford it, this is must see stuff.

I think it just means he's going to go pick them up. None of us are missing this game. I'm still going to buy a bunch of tickets. It's just that I learned last year that buying a huge block online is probably not a wise choice when you live in the Wichita area and getting to the arena to pick them up in person is just a matter of making time for it and going.

Ah, gotcha. I figured the $8 in gas it would cost him to make the drive probably meant it was a dealbreaker for going and not just buying online.

                          • I think the amount they charge is ridiculous. I don't object to convenience fees being added, but they should be more reasonable, IMHO. I did pony up this time as I wanted certain seats, they were available, and I was afraid they wouldn't be there by the time I got to IBA in the late afternoon.

Nailed it. That first year was the best possible scenario for season ticket holders, but the complaints were deafening. You have to be careful what you wish for, and you have to be careful what you ***** and moan about. Getting reseated from a circular arena like CKA into a "normal" oval arena like IBA is bound to create some very insignificant issues, but instead of just accepting the inherent limitations of the situation and being thankful we have the opportunity to play these games in an environment like IBA (which HCGM loves), a lot of people raised a ruckus and the rest of us have been facepalming since.

                              • I purchased 2 tickets on Day 1 (not a season ticket holder, please don't hate) after guessing the code but didn't complete the order online because my $47 tickets ended up having an additional $25-$30 (can't remember exactly) in taxes & fees. Since I work about 3 minutes away, I hopped in my car, drove to the ticket office instead where there was no line & was more than happy to avoid the fees. They didn't bother asking for the code either. As others have suggested, a cap on the # of tickets you can purchase would likely eliminate/curb this problem. I don't plan on ever buying season tickets since most games are beatdowns & we're in a crappy conference so I try to get a great seat to the games I want to go to.
