That is really strange. I bought my tickets yesterday and specifically asked for tickets in row A of Section 207 and was told that the best they could do was row B in a similar section on the other side of the arena (section 220).

      • I believe Select A Seat fills their seats by section first, rather than row. Last year when you could view the seat map, the arena was selling mostly by section which probably means that anyone who was clicking best available was getting seats in a certain section rather than in the closest row available. I could be wrong but just my two cents.

        • Code breakers — It hasn’t always been easy for Wichita State to sell tickets to its annual basketball game at Intrust Bank Arena.
This season, WSU boasts a matchup that doesn’t require discounts – but another problem arose.

Although it’s not clear how widespread the practice is, at least some season ticket-holders shared their code to buy tickets for the Dec. 12 game against Utah.

With the code, a fan could jump ahead of other buyers, irritating season ticket-holders who may miss out on good seats. While it doesn’t appear large numbers of tickets are showing up on the secondary market, sharing codes would also allow people to buy tickets and sell them for a profit. On Saturday morning, vividseats.com offered 41 upper-level seats for sale, all above face value. There is no limit on the number of seats a season ticket-holder can purchase.

“We’ve always been able to purchase upper-bowl tickets in the middle close to the front of the upper bowl,” season ticket-holder Jeff Beckwith wrote in an email explaining his concerns. “We aren’t even concerned with the lower bowl. Yet now we’re getting shut out of that area. The only tickets we were able to purchase were on the ends of the lower bowl, and up high.”

Codes were distributed to season ticket-holders ranked by Shocker Priority Points. Deputy athletic director Darron Boatright said WSU is aware of the issues. The athletic department urged season-ticket holders not to share their codes in a letter explaining the sale.

“We asked season ticket-holders to protect the integrity of the codes,” he said. “Most choose to do that. We’re always evaluating and I’m sure there are some changes we can make.”

One potential change is issuing a code that expires after one use. While Intrust Bank Arena and selectaseat.com administer the tickets, WSU can choose codes and dates for the sale.

Last season’s game against Saint Louis registered the first sellout (15,004) of WSU’s five games at the downtown arena. The game against Utah is expected to sell out and will be one of WSU’s most anticipated non-conference games in recent seasons.
I think a one-time use code would be helpful especially if they also put a limit of how many tickets could be purchased with that code. You could simply make that number part of the code. For example Baker10, would limit the buyer to a one-time use to purchase up to 10 tickets.

The one-time use code is good as long as it's not easy to figure out. There would be some unhappy fans if they went to purchase their tickets and found out that their code had already been used.

You can't blame people for sharing the code when they are that mind-numbingly simple to guess and follow such a pattern that once you knew one, you knew them all.

Or even guessing the codes outright...

I think you are right. When you choose Best Available online they sell them section by section. That is why I went in person to buy my tickets. I wanted row A in some specific sections. Something I couldn't do online this year. I am pretty irritated to find out they actually still had row A tickets available in section 207 on Saturday when I asked specifically for row A tickets in that section on Friday and was told at the ticket window that row B of a similar section across the arena was the best she could do.

I agree. And as frustrated as I am about the lack of choice, I bet it reduces single seats by themselves.

Code? Who needs a code when you can go right up to the box office and get tickets without anybody asking for one. That's mind-numbing.

                      ... No really, deuces.

That row was probably on hold. For who or why? Who knows. But I'm sure somebody wasn't keeping you from getting them if they were actually available. Then again though, these were the same people that didn't give a rip if you had a code or not.

The ticketing software actually prevents you from leaving single seats. You could grab a couple seats anywhere, but if you were leaving a single seat open next to you, it wouldn't let you get the tickets.

                            • Pretty close to a sellout at this point. Best available pair nets you 210, Row T.

After several years of ticket watch threads that we've done, it's pretty great to see that last year was full by game time and this season may practically sell out a month or two ahead of time. Things are pretty good :)

Now if we can just be sure and win this one. We've finally got a big time game. We're undefeated so far at IBA... Pretty cool all around.
