Hawkins got a DUI, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving on a suspended license. He's up to seven tickets in McLean County. ISU's first game is against Murray State.

That sounds like a slap on the wrist to me.

My guess is he'll be suspended for the exhibition game.

You are correct, but ISUR does have a history. We have a good history too. I remember a couple is suspensions for lack of effort, missing class (no games), probably the most serious was a DUI to a player who was ineligible (maybe bored and unfocused), and NCAA paperwork (a travesty). I may have missed something. Whatever, the history, it just takes one dingleberry decision by a kid to change that. At this time, I don't see a Shocker who is that type of dingleberry, but it could happen at anytime. I have a feeling that this Hawkins incident is scratching the surface and many things hidden.

Unfortunate for Hawkins that Illinois State has standards so much higher than the rest of the Valley when it comes these things.

That said I expect him to be suspended for 3 to 5 games to start the season against what looks to be a less than intimidating early schedule.

the more interesting board is Bradley's. Can't link the exact thread, only the message board. Also reported that his class on ISU's roster has been changed from Jr to Sr. If that sticks, it means he didn't fulfill the rquirements for a non-qualifier to get a 4th year (not on pace to graduate).

I just checked the IllSt roster, and Hawkins is indeed listed as a senior. Perhaps the Shocks dodged a bullet when he headed in another direction.

He's also 23 years old, according to the arrest story that PaulS linked. The only Shocker who's currently 23 is Zach Bush, with Nurger about to hit that age in a couple of weeks. (By contrast, Austin Reaves is 18, and McDuffie just turned 19 last month.)

It appears both DJ Clayton and Malik Yarbrough also had charges from yesterday. Both appear to have Theft charges, and one had a minor in consumption charge.
