Before scrolling down and clicking on the link, if you had to guess what national-level media member jumped on this (non)story, Kunkel style, who would it be?

    If you guessed Gottlieb, then...

The lead paint eaters over at phog by and large consider this news to be factual:

The development of this story is pretty hilarious! So, SO many people getting trolled by a source who the ISU peeps themselves tabbed as a farce the moment it showed up in the twitterverse.

So, a tally; total public figures and/or groups who have been successfully trolled on this story thus far:

      -Will Kunkle
      -Doug Gottlieb
      -Nearly the entirety of phog.net
      -ObamaVoterSports.com (or something like that)

      Anyone else?

        Baaaahahaha. His comments are classic.

"He has a Top 20? Top 15? Probably Top 20 team left at WSU this year."

"He is at the premier school in the league, but it is at a lower level than the B12."

Apparently Dougie was busy in March.

I can't wait to see the backpedaling by this douchenozzle when we win the national championship. Even Jeff ******* has mostly put his irrational hatred of Gregg Marshall aside when talking about Wichita State because he knows we are for real and doesn't want to look like a complete dumbass. Gottlieb on the other hand keeps doubling down every chance he gets.

I wonder how many people's credit he has ruined using their cards to double down. Cause he certainly hasn't had a payout yet.

Maybe I'm wrong, but how did Kunkel do anything wrong with this? Isn't he the only one who actually did anything journalistic and try and find sources, of which he couldn't find, and even got confirmation from WSU that Gregg hasn't been contacted by ISU.

No one is ever going to just accept that WSU is a good job. They just can't accept it because it does not fit their narrative.

When you look at what happens on the court you see an Iowa State team that darn near takes 1st in the Big 12 but gets beat by a very average "lower level" UAB team the next week and then you see a "lower level" WSU team beat the conference champ Hawks right after that. This "level" thing is an interesting thing.

Another helpful tidbit...our margin over KU was larger than any other deficit they had in their 5 big 12 losses. That can't be right, cant it?......
No mighty big 12 team beat them by more than 7. and yes, that margin happened against K-State :) All of their losses against powerhouse, ranked big 12 teams were decided by 5 points or less. I guess KU can hang with the big 12, but they can't hang with WSU. That's the premier school in the "upper level" big 12.

Turns out, neutral courts with marginally fair officiating in the NCAA tournament tends to "level" the playing field a bit.

Where do you draw the line? Does any WSU fan realistically think Gregg is interested in Iowa State? If the Northwestern job opened up and a Northwestern fan started tweeting about Gregg interviewing there, does Kunkel check with his sources there and report about it? What about if DePaul were to open back up and a DePaul fan tweeted about Gregg? Creighton? KU? Winthrop?

It just seems like Kunkel wanted to jump on a story that didn't exist. Maybe it's because the story got Kunkel's blood flowing. Maybe Kunkel legitimately thought there was something there and was just doing his job. I am going to lean towards the former based on his previous comments, tweets, etc.

I'm with you here. Kunkel did something useful and he deserves credit. The fact that Kunkel got to the meat of the situation and Gottlieb is still floundering is hilarious. That leaves Gottlieb in rare air...air that not even Kunkel is in.

It's just fun to dog Kunkel. I have a sneaking suspicion that someday Kunkel will become a pretty decent pro-WSU guy. Once he figures out all the idiots at KWCH are blowing smoke about KU, he might figure out how to work for Wichita instead of them. That's the thing about smarmy guys. Maybe he'll decide to go full-douche on his co-workers instead of his city.

Edit: This was in regards to Goatlube, not Kunkel. Although he has proven very capable of being a tool, I appreciated what he did here.
