I know I have, more than once, and if my life were judged on those highly-isolated situations I'd be fooked. Thankfully, I am not a high-ish profile person, and I didn't have an attention whore near me with a cell phone camera.

It is called forgiveness and grace. Things that are applied in a ridiculously subjective manner in our culture.

If we judged everyone in our society with the same measuring stick that we are using with CJ, then I would make a gander that at least 30% of our employable workforce would be considered unemployable.
    Spot freaking on.

Hell, we know SB isn't perfect, evident by his grammar skills.

Well, if it isn't obvious where I stand on the subject, I don't know what to tell you, but it's been pretty clear. But for you, I'll say it again.

I could care less whether or not HCGM hires him back. If he does, great, if he doesn't, then that means he found a better choice.
CJ deserves a second chance, but that doesn't mean we don't have the right to be concerned that a video was posted of him sexually harassing a young lady. Whether or not it was a one-time thing is irrelevant. The fact that it happened is rightful cause for concern, forgiveness not withstanding. People forgive, but don't always forget, which could be the case here. I'm not anti or pro CJ

Now, that being said, you have yet to answer my questions, or do you have another smartass comeback waiting for me?

Nice to see you too Fever, always a pleasure to have a scintillating debate with you. How you been buddy? Wife and kids ok? I'm doing just great, thanks for asking. :)

It's not about Marshall judging Jans. It's not even about any one of us judging Jans. It is predicting how others would react to the hiring. The media sometimes picks stories like this and really hammers them home. If we hired CJ, and sports websites like Deadspin and ESPN and public interest type news sites like the Huffington Post picked up the story in a negative light it could harm us in a few ways. First, as an individual with a degree that says WSU on it, I only ever what my alma mater reported on in a positive light. If you think the Penn State stuff (I've said it before... I'm not comparing the two. It's just the first sports scandal that came to my mind just now) didn't harm grads, I think you're naive. Second, it can harm our actual basketball team recruiting. If we are in a recruiting battle against anyone else for a particular player, this allows the coach of the other team to say to the kid's mom, "Just so you know, we've got your son's best interests at heart. I am sure WSU is a respectable program, but I know that they have a coach that did X."

Feel free to disagree and think we should hire him tomorrow. I just thinks it's dishonest to say everyone who thinks this would be a potentially bad hire is "self-righteous" and that we want Marshall to "judge" Jans. I hope that you understand it's about something much bigger than whether I think CJ is a bad guy or not.
My concern as to other coach's rhetoric is that he perhaps has a drinking problem. To me, that would be the characteristic that would most likely be repeated and that would affect my son. Now if CJ were hired to coach a women's team, that's a horse of another color.

"I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

            • Does anybody think that part of GM's decision whether or not to bring Coach Jans back on the coaching staff is somewhat more difficult due to the Conner Frankamp situation???

Someone mentioned earlier how media and coaches (while recruiting) would possibly try to create a hyperbole pertaining to the Jans incident. Of course they will. Now you got two stories (Jans and Conner) where ugly media and/or coaches could pounce on Wichita St. tarnishing all our great reputation we've been receiving this past 5 + years.

I'm not completely against bringing Jans back in. Obviously Coach Marshall and the Wichita St. administration see the sensitivity of the nature here. But...college sports (especially at Wichita St.s level) is a dog-eat-dog world. Bring back Jans this season??? Or risk he goes somewhere else next year??? IDK.....tough one.

              • If a recruit's family is smart, then they will take anything they hear from coaches with a grain of salt. I bet coaches use ANYTHING to dissuade a kid from looking elsewhere, whether it is true or not. I bet Wichita State coaches still fight the stereotype that the WSU campus is dangerous. Granted, it isn't a complete safe haven, but any dangerous things that could happen on campus could happen ANYWHERE. All it takes is one time.

Like someone else had mentioned, if Chris were to be proactive and transparent in his recruiting, he can openly mention his mistakes and use it as an example of what can happen when you make poor choices. I think that sort of approach will actually earn him more respect. With the kinds of people that Gregg wants to recruit, I think if you are honest and up-front with them, those kids and their parents will appreciate that.

Very true. I imagine CK is telling someone to clean up the women's bball mess, get the CF punishment taken care of and we will then talk about Jans.

In the data dump that BG released there was a statement from the bar officials that said that was how he usually acted.

Was that from the bar owner?

I remember seeing that statement from the fella who filmed and later leaked the video. I did not see a corroborating statement from the bar owner or employee.

I may have missed it but would enjoy seeing a link since the two sources are very different.
