  • I'm undecided where I fall on if we should rehire Jans or not. But I will say to those that think it could be used against Wsu on the recruiting trail, that the opposite could be the case. If I was Marshall or other coaches I'd use it as an example of how the team and staff will have your back if you make a mistake in college and will help you take the right steps to make it right. I'd think that message would be well received by a young kid.

Thankfully, I am not a high-ish profile person, and I didn't have an attention whore near me with a cell phone camera.

It is called forgiveness and grace. Things that are applied in a ridiculously subjective manner in our culture.

If we judged everyone in our society with the same measuring stick that we are using with CJ, then I would make a gander that at least 30% of our employable workforce would be considered unemployable.
You are a little low with the at least 30% mark.

If Marshall hires Jans then I'll be ecstatic. He made a mistake and has paid the price and then some for it. Pitino/Petrino have both had way worse incidents (and they're HEAD COACHES) and they both recruit at a high level, don't see that being a big issue.

        • I have been very measured by what I said on this issue. But I would say that this issue cuts both ways. If either side cannot see that the other side has a valuable opinion, and could be correct is being judgemental.

          • Why would you want Coach Jans' back? Wouldn't you also want his front, his head, his arms, his legs, his hands and his feet. If we are going to rehire him let's go for the whole enchilada.

            • Let's hire him, give him a pat on the ass and send him back to work

I remember seeing that statement from the fella who filmed and later leaked the video. I did not see a corroborating statement from the bar owner or employee.

I may have missed it but would enjoy seeing a link since the two sources are very different.
Yeah it could have been just in the email, I don't recall if in the termination letter they addressed it or not.

But if this was just a one time deal - does he really get fired over this? Or was this straw that broke the camels back? If it was a one time offense don't you get a warning? Or was it the "B&@$$" that put it over the top? Then I look at the school president gender and wonder whether that had something to do with it and just decided to rail road him?

The bottom line I don't care if Jan's is hired back or not. If Marshall thinks that is his best choice for assistant coach - then I'm all for it. All I want is what best for WSU BASKETBALL- but I can see some potential landmines out there if he is hired back.

Jameis Winston isn't a rapist because there is documented evidence of his accuser changing her story on at least five occasions, as well as intentionally lying to police, and her lawyer directing her friends to lie on her behalf. That's not opinion; it's documented evidence. Which is why no charges were filed.

I'd generally hope folks here were smart enough not to rush to judgments on issues like this considering Carl Hall's situation a few years back, but then again we all rush to these judgments whenever the news tells us what to believe.

But hardly the time for such arguments :)

If you're referring to me, I'd point you to my first post in this thread:

Marshall has years of experience with Jans, as does his staff and players. He has all of the information in the world to determine whether it's an isolated mistake or a pattern of character deficiencies. I trust him not to damage the program by overlooking a pattern.
My problem is only with people who clearly value winning more than morality, and have no interest in whether this is a one time issue or a systematic pattern of behavior: if he helps our team win that's all that matters. That's not all that matters.

                    • Would anyone want one of the other MVC teams to hire CJ ?

The last thing I would want to see is him sitting next to Lansing at Indiana State.

This is another of the many reasons why he will be on the bench at WSU next year.

If by Charles and CK you and monster mean Charles Koch, he doesn't micromanage his own businesses, so why would he do it to someone else's?

Marshall knows talent -- playing talent and coaching talent -- and he doesn't run scared. If he rehires Jans, I'll trust him to have evaluated the situation and and made his best judgment, and I think at this point we have plenty of reasons to trust Marshall's judgment.
