  • They think (and probably rightly so) that the higher their players get drafted the more it helps in recruiting future NBA players.

Unfortunately for them, except for Duke this year, having star freshmen one-and-dones hasn't translated to national championships.

    • Kentucky 2012. But I get your point and tend to agree with it.

Don't forget that UK 2012 had tons of experience returning from the previous year's Final Four squad (largely returning due to the lockout). MKG and Anthony Davis were the two best players, but they also had sophomores Doron Lamb and Terrence Jones, and senior Darius Miller. If they didn't get a once in a decade freshman AND 3 returning high level players with Final Four experience they don't win the title; it was the combination that won a championship.

Duke was actually more reliant on freshmen this year than UK was in either 2012 or this year, given that both years UK benefited from returning players with Final Four experience.

        • I ended up seeing Baker near his house tonight. Had a quick convo with him, great guy! I asked him if he was staying or leaving and he said with a big smile on his face that "you will find out monday"

I wonder if he actually meant Monday, April 27th. That's the day after the deadline for declaring for the NBA draft and the date of the final Coach Marshall radio show for the year.

Guess we'll find out what he meant tomorrow. I really hope we don't have to wait till the 27th.
Its a good landing if you can walk away, its a great landing if the plane can be reused the next day.

Does the fact that he's announcing a week before the deadline give any clues as to what the decision might be?

Actually, he would be announcing two weeks before the deadline. The only clue I can take from that is that he has made up his mind.

My guess is that he will be coming back. But I have no inside info whatsoever. That's a total WAG.

                            • only positive I can see in announcing it early is to clear up and questions on scholarships, position battles, and recruiting for WSU next year and beyond. If he stays we return as strong as ever, if he leaves it opens up a scholarship for one of the new guys.
