I think more than anything ... Evan will be the reason he comes back .. and Fred to some extent. Evan and Ron are really close.

    • Yep, he's not leaving Evan.... he completes him. :-)

Does that mean that if Ron leaves, then Evan might think about moving on as well?

Or vice versa. Who knows? Certainly not I. Not sure they are totally tied at the hip though.

            • How much could either player move up the board with a stellar season? What does Ron, particularly with a degree in hand, have to gain by returning? There is value in having one last hurrah, but he has to determine what it's worth. Loyalty has nothing to do with it. The only disloyal thing would be to play college ball somewhere else.

                • IMO Ron does have something to gain. He did not have a truly great year this past season. I think he could actually improve his stock next season with a better performance.

And what if his performance is not stellar?
Say on par with this year?.

                    • Well, I suppose it wouldn't make a difference. Looking at that draft board posted, it can't get any worse.

                      • Thanks for the draft board, kc11. Based on that, (a) unless Ron and FVV are #61 and #62 and lurking just beneath the surface, the draft would probably not be a happy occasion for them; (b) how on earth did our little old "Play Angry" Shockers kick the tail feathers of the wondrous "Play Lazy" Chickenhawks?; and (c) UNLV could be set up for another of those patented underachieving seasons by a future Shocker non-conference opponent.

Also amusing to observe the mind reading, analysis, and learned advice for Baker. Personally, I won't hazard a guess as to what he's thinking. But I'll note that Ron hasn't played for or won a national championship with Fred and Evan at WSU yet. He's been close enough to playing for one to taste it, so he knows it's possible, but it hasn't happened. Again -- I won't try to outguess him. Nevertheless, I think it's safe to say that at least some competitors, upon looking at those facts, would decide that they were NOT SATISFIED. We'll see what happens.

                        • I heard some ESPN commentator say that Ron could improve his position by showing he can constitently hit a better % of his 3s than he did this year. And he needs to work on his range and improve that over the summer.

                          • John Gasaway ranks the top 25 players in college basketball for 2015-16, leading with top freshman Ben Simmons, who is set to begin his career at LSU.

Top 25 Players for next year.

                            3. Fred VanVleet, Wichita State Shockers

VanVleet - like North Carolina's Marcus Paige - made first-team preseason All-American for 2014-15, but then was left off the first, second an even third teams where it counts, in the postseason. That felt a little harsh. Few players nationally matched VanVleet's excellence on both offense and defense. In Missouri Valley play, VanVleet shot 43 percent on his rare 3s, drew fouls, functioned as a near error-free point guard and posted the conference's third-highest steal rate. Shocker fans are lucky to get him -- and Gregg Marshall -- back for another season.

                            20. Ron Baker, Wichita State Shockers

Baker wasn't as productive inside the arc or at the line this season as he'd been as a sophomore, but he offset those declines by sensibly deciding to never commit turnovers. The result was an offensive rating that, per kenpom.com, stayed virtually the same year to year. He and VanVleet will see to it that the Shockers arrive at mid-March 2016 sporting the latest in a series of very small numbers in the loss column.

I feel for Ron, in all honesty he became a more well rounded player this year and his stats don't really show it. But that's what happens when you lose a Cleanthony Early and the scouting report becomes don't let Ron Baker touch the ball.

With Zach Brown at the 3 and some of our new inside/out ability at the 4, you hope that they can draw more defensive attention away from Ron.

                              • I would bet we start next season with Zach at the 4 and Evan at the 3. I sure hope Evan spends his entire summer working on his jump shot.
