I'm not forcing you to read this thread. You are completely entitled to -- and capable of -- ignoring it. Just because the topic doesn't make you feel comfortable doesn't mean it isn't relevant to the basketball team.

A former associate pastor at a Wichita church, he’s officially the Shockers’ volunteer team chaplain. But Dickie calls himself the character coach, which is just fine with Gregg Marshall, the coach of all things men’s basketball at WSU.

So Gregg is cool with it and Fred says that the guys are all for it. Why is this an issue again?

I very rarely check out the politics section, so I like it when issues that could affect our team are in the basketball forum. To me, potential litigation isn't even really politics. It's part of the justice system, so just like we would put an arrest in the basketball forum, I am fine with this being here.
I would agree with you on that narrow point. The problem arises with implicit or explicit viewpoints about left and right inevitably come out and hijack the basketball talk,

We have politics forum for a reason. Are you not capable of posting in the corect forum? In 1962, the basketball team appeared in front of the city council to support a fair housing ordinance to end discrimination based on race. The John Birch Society opposed it calling it part of a Communist conspiracy. Fred C. Koch was a leadimg member of the JBS. Was that a basketball topic or a political topic. I say Politics.

I say it is both related to basketball and politics. It doesn't have to be an either/or, it can be both.

Until the basketball talk gets hijacked, so why not put where it belongs to begin with...

Yes, when you have a sports board that doesn't have a politics forum and the sports information hits a slow period, the sports forum ends up getting overwhelmed with a ton of annoying politics threads. That's why you should have a politics forum where 99.9% of those threads go ... so we don't have to weed through them in order to ignore them. This is that one out of a 1,000 where it DIRECTLY impacts our team, and therefore it belongs right here.

The example you gave above is another 1 in 1,000 thread that directly impacts our team and belongs in the basketball forum. Again, it would be easy to ignore if you aren't interested.

We have another forum called "Around the NCAA" where we talk about coaches being hired/fired/recruited. But all of the HC3GM getting recruited threads belongs right here in the WSU Basketball forum, because it directly impacts us.

The other forums aren't a place to hide things you aren't comfortable with, they are a place to put non-basketball related stuff (other than the Recruiting thread, because again recruitment information can overwhelm the rest of this forum).

That's my opinion and I won't be swayed. If it gets moved you won't hear me complain either. :)

It's not. The authors of this letter lack a first year law student's understanding of the concept of standing, which is surprising, since they've had their asses handed to them on this subject before.

Shockernet is a house. The basketball forum is the living room, where visitors come to talk sports. If you want to pee and poop politics, go to the bathroom (politics forum). That's what a batroom is for.

This particular thread is an SGA (silent gas aytack) gone bad.

This thread could turn into a dumpster fire, and it would still be 100%, without a doubt, fully contextual to the basketball subforum.

It is really too bad this 'character coach', or 'chaplain', or whatever, isn't a Muslim cleric instead. If he were, he'd be on the front page of the NYT as a shining example of moderate Islam, and probably would pick up a Nobel Peace Prize nomination along the way somewhere during all the media fellatio.

Unfortunately, he is joe blow the random evangelical, so instead we get this from the loonies:
