  • If you signed to play for a certain coach why should you not be allowed to follow him/her to another school?

It doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

    • Your point about the use of a former employer's resources is interesting, Royal, but at the time of the recruiting the coach was recruiting for that employer, so who else's resources would he have used?

I used to be pretty solidly in the anti-MT camp on this, and I don't know that I've entirely changed my mind even yet. But I'm much more ambivalent than I used to be, and much more sympathetic to the argument that a coach recruits for HIS program rather than just the school's program. After all, Marshall's program (for example) is infinitely more appealing, I'd think, than Randy Smithson's or Scott Thompson's was -- and yet WSU is still the same WSU. Sure, it has grown and developed in the past 15-20 years as well, but not nearly to the extent that the basketball program has. Recruits like Fred "Wins" VanVleet and Ron Baker (or Landry Shamet and Markis McDuffie) may like what WSU has to offer in general, but there can be little doubt that the clincher for all was what Marshall himself could bring to the table. The same was probably true of Turgeon with Denzel Bowles, and it may also be true of Green Bay under Wardle vs. his unknown quantity successor, or Bradley under Wardle vs. Geno Ford.

So I'm much more inclined to let this sort of thing go than I used to be, especially considering that the new guy still gets a chance to re-recruit his predecessor's signees, as (for another example) Avery Johnson did successfully at Alabama with Dazon Ingram.

That was the reason stated by Coach Marshall for not wanting to bring any of his Winthrop recruits to WSU and he was definitely in need of players that 1st year.

I think most of the time releases are granted because the new coach doesn't really want players who don't want to be there. However, I think it is pretty common to delay the release until the replacement coach is given an opportunity to talk with those recruits.

A school doesn't have to belong to the NLOI organization but I believe most D-1 schools do. Want you join you are contractually obligated to follow the rules. Also, a player is under no obligation whatsoever to sign an LOI regardless of whether the school is a member or not. However, that player risks he scholarship not being there when he shows up for school.

Quite a few people here would agree with him.

No need for anything in his pocket.

            • I had forgotten about this possibility, but this is a HUGE thing for the Valley. Evansville has a chance to have a pretty good season if things falls right, Now, if Marty would learn how to coach him rather than focus all offensive efforts on Balentine.

              • Don't sleep on EU next year. They've also got Willie Wiley coming into the mix. 1st Team AA Juco forward who redshirted last year. Should be a very nice team.

They've certainly got the talent it takes to win on the floor. I have to agree with WuShock16 though. I'm afraid their biggest deficiency is in the coach's seat. I know a couple of EU season tix holders that said during last season that they were giving up their tickets until Marty was gone.

                  • Dan Muller is definitely taking an opposite non-con scheduling philosophy than Jankovic did. The Redbirds will play at Kentucky, at San Diego State, play Maryland in Cancun and host UAB and Murray State next season. Pretty solid schedule.

I like that schedule. I hope they can find a way to win a few of those games for the Valley's sake.

The question to be asked is, will Simmons be smart enough to give Wiley more minutes than his son? And if so, will he get to touch the ball?

I don't think I'm going to be too happy if he winds up at Minnesota or Nevada.
Jordan Caroline committed to Nevada. How in the world did the MVC lose Caroline and Marcus Marshall to Nevada?

Isn't their new coach a former NBA guy?

Northern Iowa will begin a three-year series with UNC at home on 11/21/15, Ben Jacobson told @CBSSports. Nice homecoming for Marcus Paige.

                              Congrats to UNI.

Wish they could've started this series last year. I think UNI would have had a better shot. That being said, if the NCAA does what is SHOULD do (but probably won't), these games won't happen.
