^ it's true...for the record, I think Marshall says 'no' to Memphis...and we hire Peal/Marshall-lite in Steve Forbes.
This. By the way we need a game for Intrust next year.... Just sayin

That scenario reeks of the arrogant ***** he was when he was our coach. I thought so even then. That was my introduction to "At this level..." type contempt.
That seems just as bad. "Hey,how about hiring our former coaches' consulting firm to help us locate a new coach? You know, the one that thought SC was a better job?"

Forbes would be an excellent hire and I think a very realistic option for Memphis.

Forbes would be a great hire there. Already showing great improvement at ETSU and would be drastically cheaper for Memphis.

            WTF?
Posters on your end are saying he didn't actually quit. Your AD helped find him a spot to land.

I've heard GT will pay his 500k buyout, and pay him 1.5 million per year for 4 years...we make up the difference to 2.65 million

              10.6 million
              -500k
              -6 million from GTech (1.5 x4 years)

means we will owe him 4.1 million over the next 4 years...THAT we (Fred Smith, Alan Graf, Mike Rose, Bill Laurie) can handle

I have no doubt you can handle that. But can you handle that plus 4+ million for Marshall? So 5 million+ a year? I'm not sure.

What makes you believe your "objective reality," SV?

You sound like KC Shox the "realist." Are you being recruited and reluctant to get on board because you're afraid Marshall will leave? If not, can you confirm that there are players of whom that is true? And what spots on the roster are affected, considering that WSU already has 12 eligible to return next year, with someone committed for the 13th spot, and that none of those players are seniors?

And finally, what makes anyone think Marshall is "letting his name be out there" -- how does he prevent people who have nothing else to do from talking and speculating about him? Even if he says, "I'm not going anywhere," people who want to speculate will do so and claim, "Yeah, they all say that."

If Pastner is actually able to parlay his decline at Memphis into a fresh start at Georgia Tech, that's a better move than McDermott's escape from Iowa State to Creighton just in the nick of time. Maybe Memphis should feed their grandiose hopes by hiring Rick Pitino and giving him a similar way out at Louisville -- although I personally think the Memphis poster's Steve Forbes suggestion is an excellent and realistic idea.

                    Let the circle jerking continue.

You're repeating what has already been stated in this thread.

Are you arguing legalese or something here, because I'm not sure what your point is on this rabbit trail.

                        • Memphis fan here. I come in peace. I agree with the other Memphis poster. You're doing something right if all of these programs want your coach. I won't lie, I want him bad. But it's no secret that Memphis would be a re-build right now. When Pastner took over, he was handed the keys to a Lamborghini. And he proceeded to turn it into a Civic. But with that said, with the advantages that Memphis has, it wouldn't take Marshall long at all to get it revving again. Memphis, and the south in general, is a recruiting hotbed. Heck, as bad as Pastner was (he also is not the great recruiter that people think he is) he landed top 5 recruiting classes at Memphis a few times. Multiple 5 star players. The Memphis name got those kids. Not Pastner. Combine the Memphis name with Marshall as coach, and he could compete for titles year in and year out. No doubt he can compete for titles at Wichita State, too. But it may be a tad harder. As far as facilities, we play in an NBA arena, and have a brand new, state of the art basketball practice facility going up. Despite what some think, we can pay almost anything. FedEx, Wal-Mart, etc owners all are Memphis boosters. We've slashed our athletic budget towards basketball the last 2 years as a way to make Pastner uncomfortable. Got to do what you've got to do. ESPN ranked Memphis as the 19th best program of all time. Throughout our history, pretty much any halfway competent coach has made multiple sweet 16's, multiple elite 8's, final fours, and title games.

After reading through my post, it does come off as a post to show off Memphis. And that wasn't my intention. Just stating what would be intriguing to Marshall. I agree with UofMemphis, though. I think we end up with Steve Forbes. He would be a great hire

you seem very combative...please feel free to not respond to my posts, and I hope you guys get into the AAC to offset Navy football only.

                            good day.

Not trying to sound like a dick or anything, but once the accomplishments of your cheating teams are omitted (otherwise known as what's actually reported in the record books) Memphis basketball has one less Final Four, literally the same number of Elite Eights and Sweet Sixteens, and just three more wins in the tournament, as compared to Wichita State basketball.

Keep in mind that the combative mentality comes from the fact that this has happened 10 to 15 times before. A team fires their coach for underachieving, their fans come to the board and start telling us how great the opportunity and hint that WSU can't compete with them and "If they want Marshall, they will get him". Hasn't happened yet. Memphis is intriguing, but basically a lateral move for Marshall
