  • I must be a dumb old fart; I don't understand what 'Got-lube' said to get the natives restless? Isn't Yogi vs Fred an intriguing matchup? If he would have said Yogi vs Boo-boo, I might see that as a slam towards Fred.

Of course I don't tweet (I toot) and might be missing something.

      • How cool is it that we potentially have the opportunity to take down 2 bluebloods this weekend?

I just have a dislike for all things Gottlieb. Even seeing a benign tweet from him is enough to spoil a wonderful evening. Keep on tooting!

            • Gottlieb can be pretty entertaining, unfiltered and a lot of times informative on the radio as a guest & even TV. The biggest problem I have with him is that he trolls fan bases mainly through social media then uses his show to pour gas on the fires he starts then acts like these fan bases are unreasonable and have no reason to be upset at him. Some might call it a clever shtick; however, I call it highly annoying because he offers up an unapologetic and truthful view about of things going on in college basketball today but it gets lost simply since he can't turn off his azzhat igniter switch.

Because he has basically only said bad things about Fred for the last 2 years and now he's trying to tout it as some great matchup.

Honestly, I think he's going to try to use it to pick FVV apart...

                  • Yes - Gottlieb uses passive aggressive behavior to reel in willing participants so he can get paid extremely well to talk about it. Kind of like the TV preacher who pleads "Please send me money so I can stay on TV to ask for more money".

Yes - "How good is Yogi vs VanVleet?" is truly one of the best opening round match-ups to watch.

And, (seriously) if you take DG out of the picture and HCGM said EXACTLY the same thing on his radio show, we would all be glowing in the observation.

Nothing is going to change the hate for DG - I just have to smile at the dynamics. And, how I wished Greg Gumble would have responded to his huge gaffe a couple of years ago asking "Am I the token white opinion on this panel?" with "No Doug, you are the token Jew."
If you take the high road, you won't find much traffic there . . .

                    • I don't think you will see much of a FVV vs. Yogi matchup. Seems from your assessments that Cotton is the most likely candidate to guard Yogi. I also think that Yogi gets Baker, and that Rob Johnson gets FVV. Just an educated guess.

                      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, there is no doubt in my mind that WSU is a very good matchup for IU. BUT, that is in no way an indictment of WSU, their potential to go very far in this tournament, their resume this year, or their (extraordinary) accomplishments over the last few years.

It is as simple as this; Indiana has gotten absolutely blown out only a few times this season, and on each occasion, it has been against teams that have bigs who create space and score in the low post, and who defend the rim extremely well with a big. The best examples were our games against Purdue. Purdue is a "good, not great" team, but Hammons and Haas crushed us. Alex Olah on Nwestern was too much to handle, and Iowa's front line was waaay too big. Lville and Wisky bigs also were unstoppable. Heck, 300 pound Josh Smith on Gtown was the entire reason that game turned from a double digit IU lead to a loss. Our other losses by in large were against teams we took to the wire. Without the opponent having post scoring, we were very good against Maryland, Butler, SMU (without Markus Kennedy), Michigan, Illinois, OSU, etc. We defend the three pretty well; at least we defend it much, much better than we defend down low.

Doesn't mean that IU will win; it does mean that from a style perspective it is a good matchup for IU.

                      Peace!

Good post. Interesting to look at it from the other side. As I said earlier in the thread, I viewed it as a good matchup for WSU because IU is smaller. The only reason I believe we lost our first game to UNI was Seth Tuttle. Look at ISU.. Lynch down low. No monster post, no problem. Guess it is strength vs. strength.

Where and what time can I find the WSU pep rally? Mind if I don my purple?

That's interesting. You know IU better than any shocker fans here, I'm sure. It seems like looking at your roster that Yogi would be giving up 4 inches to Baker. My immediate reaction is that Baker will just pull up and shoot over Yogi and FVV will take advantage of being guarded by a bigger (and presumably slower?) player by driving into the lane frequently. Those are Baker and FVV's greatest strengths, so it seems like that would just help our offense.

Is Yogi quite a bit better of a defender than your other guards?

WSU Alumni Association on Facebook posted the following:

"With a 1:45 p.m. tipoff for Friday’s game, Shocker fans are invited to a Team Send-Off at the DoubleTree by Hilton Omaha at noon. The winner will advance to play the winner of Kansas vs. New Mexico State on Sunday, March 22 — and a Shocker pep rally will have Shocker fans rockin’ two hours before Sunday’s game in the Aksarben Room at the DoubleTree, where you’ll also find a perfect gathering place for Shocker fans — the City Center Pub."

That makes me think there's only the team send off on Friday, not an official pep-rally. Assuming a W on Friday, there will be a pep rally on Sunday. Others may have different information.

Sounds like a repeat of Saturday in St. Louis. That worked out well, didn't it?

When will people learn to enjoy and relish in each game and not be entitled? smh
