I'm generally not against storming the court. I do have a problem with K-State fans who chant "**** KU", who blindside an opposing player by slamming into him, cursing, taunting and flipping off players before they can leave the court. If they had gathered at mid-court and celebrated, it would have been fine, but they went too far and shoved Self and others up against the tables. I'm not a fan of either program, but I may lean toward KU after what I witnessed last night.
"If you're going to do it, you're going to do it right," athletic director Jim Schaus said. "If we're going to put 'Wichita State' across our chest, then every team is going to matter."

How can anybody be against those who chant, "FU(K KU"?

I assume they don't like it because it isn't original or creative enough.

I was giving a friend of mine who's a KSU grad a hard time about last night and saying the students embarrassed the university on national TV. His reply was "you mean compared to students associated with your school making a sexual hand gesture on national tv all the time". Couldn't argue with him there - it really is embarrassing that something that has nothing to do with the university is seen on national tv because our fans think it's cute or whatever. Even if one extends the thumb and does the W, people still say it's a sexual hand gesture.

I did tell him then that storming a court with a losing record and flashing "we're #1" when doing so is just plain stupid - are you #1 in court storming or what? He couldn't argue with me on that one - he agreed :)

I think this can be traced to 2008 when a Michael Beasley led Cat team beat the hawks in Bramlage. I could be wrong though.

On another note, when my daughter worked security there, their primary goal was to surround the opposing bench and make sure the team was able to safely exit the floor. Maybe things have changed. Too bad. I would be embarrassed if I were a Cat booster.

              It's all in the thumb.

My guess is KSU's sexual hand gesture somehow includes horns.

Sounds like a theme for a video to show during the game during a timeout after the "Don't Leave Early". Show a child doing the non-thumb version after watching some adult nearby do it and then the parents with a stunned look on their faces and then put either "it's all in the thumb" or "don't look dumb, extend the thumb". Probably never happen though - telling college kids not to do something sophomoric would probably keep them from coming to the games. Oh wait, never mind - they don't show up anyway :)

Re: Hand gesture. Exactly my issue with it. We can say just extend the thumb and it's okay, but we just won't be able to educate people from other schools who think it makes us look dumb.

I had to check my calendar and make sure it was still 2015. We're talking about the hand gesture still? Really?

I think it's dumb. No reason for it... I have no issue with 'gathering' on the court if nets are being cut down, but rushing the floor is idiotic.

I'm sure I'm just late to the party on that one, but I don't think just accepting that our fanbase looks vulgar and immature is exactly a solution, is it?

I don't know how many times people have to reiterate it before people stop talking about it, but it is a W. If you think it's vulgar, it's because you're attaching the vulgarity to it. If it's someone who isn't aware of our "W" a simple explanation gets rid of it. Tell them to get their minds out of the gutter and move on. If they still have a problem, get vulgar with them, and extend your W and pull in your thumb, pinky & index fingers.

When there are only 5 fingers to work with, the number extended is significant. Next time someone accuses the WSU students of flashing obscene gestures on national TV, explain the number of fingers extended with this simple illustration.

Show them the 2-finger-extended peace sign. Make sure they have seen this clearly. Explain that you are going to change the position of a single finger. Then lower your index finger and ask them if they can tell the difference.
