  • Let's put the DUI morality debate aside for a moment, my question is...

WHY ARE YOU DRUNK AS HELL THE NIGHT BEFORE A GAME?!!

These are not the actions of someone who is FOCUSED on trying to IMPROVE. If he is an alcoholic, then it is no wonder why he has not made progress in building up his physique and overall athleticism. This "off season" for him is a golden opportunity to get bigger, stronger, and faster but it sounds like he is wasting it. Alcohol is basically the anti-PED. It dehydrates you, significantly lowers testosterone, inhibits protein synthases (ability to build muscle), and much much more.

Sounds like something I want to do in excess while trying to compete at the highest level!

Could be some significant peer pressure on him to get straight and fly right.
or his teammates are really concerned about him and want to help him through this difficult time.

      • While he doesn't talk about Conner, Marshall talks about leadership. Very interesting. http://www.mvc-sports.com/mbasketbal.../#.VMbFPf7F_yg

One Mr. Fred VanVleet is certainly the kind of leader that would reach out to help Conner, as are Mssrs. Baker and Cotton. If Conner wants to be helped he will be. If he doesn't want to open himself up and avail himself to that help than not much you can do.

Sound like a bunch of KU fans. Disappointed.

You commented in this thread and not the away game thread....soooooooo, what does that mean? Kindof driving the post count in that direction.

If he didn't get caught, he was going to get home around 1 AM and need to be at CKA around 11 AM to get ready for a basketball game (even though he wouldn't play).

I'm certain he wasn't planning on getting caught, but he apparently planned to show a tremendous amount of disrespect for his teammates.

There have been questions about whether someone should or would get fired from their job for getting a DUI. Maybe the question should be whether they would get fired for showing up drunk.

That level of intoxication at that age could have someone still puking their guts out 10 hours later. Especially after a few hours of sleep and then trying to eat something. Bodies become accustomed to alcohol consumption. Hangovers and stomach issues ease up with more experienced drinkers. If Frankamp wasn't showing serious signs 10 hours after being arrested, then he has a more serious problem.
This might be the most insightful post in this thread. That is, insightful into the mind of a common Shockernet poster.

If you really think that 10 beers over the course of 3 hours is a outlier and a singular sign for help, I wonder what world you went to college in. Because it isn't nearly the same one I went to college in.

Maybe Shockernet isn't the best place for you to hear this, but drinking at this rate is is probably more common than it isn't amongst college-aged college students who do college things.

I'm not defending Connor or saying that everyone should just look the other way because it's what every college kid does, but I am saying some people on here need a contextual lesson so that they can better evaluate the situation for what it is and not try deep-level analysis from a severely skewed perspective.
The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off.

I believe the original message is true, and doesn't denounce your statement. To drink WHATEVER and have a BAC of 186 certainly suggests this is not the first time he's done this. So, a college athlete frequently drinking at this level may reflect a typical/average college drinking student, but NOT a typical athlete; unless there is a problem. Or enough of a problem he shouldn't be on the team. Redshirt doesn't mean SQUAT during the season; you're practicing, working out, etc. Off season, well... but now? At the least a judgment problem.

                            1. Calling a cab and leaving your vehicle somewhere creates a complication. You have to wait for them show up, and you have to go back to get your car later.
                            2. Calling a cab and leaving your vehicle will cost you a bunch of money unless you can go somewhere really close.

Maybe before we make community college free, we should make cabs free for people who have been drinking. Not that I think the government should be making many things free, but there's a much better case for that than for some of the other stuff we make free. Let's say you get in a cab, they have a breathalyzer they can give you. If you fail it, they have to log that transaction as an exempt ride, and they get reimbursed as a company by the government. All you have to do is figure out how to communicate to them where you need them to take you.

Is this a really bad idea?
When I went through a few years ago the college had an agreement to provide such rides to wsu students. CF probably wasn't aware yet.

On the issue at hand, we have the best coach and on-court leader in the country. The matter is in good hands.

Suspended for the FIRST semester. No games or travel, but still allowed to participate in all other team activities, including practice and sitting on the team bench for home games. How many games did Morningstar miss, three or four? So you probably shouldn't get all high and mighty here like BS really put the wood to his reserve player Morningstar, because he didn't. Besides, Morningstar's first semester suspension and Frankamps first semeter sit out next season because of transfer rules, amount to the same thing. CF will miss the first three or four games, can't travel, but can take part in all other team activities, including practice and sitting on the team bench for home games. So Marshall is just as good as any damn chickenhawk.
