Bingo. You hit the nail on the head there.

The criticism probably isn't as harsh in the 8th grade church leagues though.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

I think the refs had a real bad stretch in the second half, but I was too focused on our team's poor execution in the first half to noticed much out of the ordinary. After the first 5 minutes of the second half, I thought it was a pretty routinely called game, some good, some so so. Except for that 5 minutes, I think HCGM was more concerned about his team as well.

Whether he claims to officiate or not, he has as much right to his opinion as you do. Fans have a bias, refs who are also fans have a bias. So what's new. I don't mind the opposing opinion, even if I may or may not agree with it. It is a fan board after all.

What's he need to "get over"? He understands the bashing and never directly called out another poster unlike some other posters. Oh, but I understand, it is a fan board. It's to be expected and we do.
Well said sir, thank you for getting it. I appreciate it. Yes, I admit, sometimes I may go a little overboard in my ref defending, but in my defense, it gets tiresome seeing and hearing fans alike, who have absolutely no knowledge of how a game should or should not be officiated (I call them uneducated fans), that think an official can do no right and constantly goes out of their way time and time and time again to point out the negatives, but not the positives. It gets old. Yes, I'm an official, what level I work is nobodys business or concern, yet people wanna make it their business. No problem, I get it. As I said, I will always do my part to try and educate people, especially if they are willing to learn. Unfortunately, there are 2 that definitely aren't, and I've dealt with them the best way I know how, to ignore.

Yep, you're right, I've been called out and had my name thrown around on these boards more times than I care to count. There's only 1 person that I've ever singled out on these boards, and absolutely not gotten along with. He knows who he is, and he deserves the call out. There's at least 4 posters on this board that I know of that have issues with this person.

Thanks again for the post, much appreciated. As I said, I'm always willing to debate with fans who are level headed and willing to learn and understand. Have a nice day.

Anybody that has objectively read my posts on the officiating in this game knows I'm in the camp that it was not the best, and that only 1 of the 3 officials was really good last night. I did say I didn't think the officiating last night, overall, was as bad as some were making it out to be. I also said that if some of these uneducated fans would put on the stripes, maybe they'd see it in a different light. I know I did. I used to be as bad as some of the posters on here, if not worse. Then I put on the stripes and things changed.

And since I have somebody that feels the need to tell me what the posts are from the 2 that I've ignored (and I wish this person wouldn't), I'm using the ignore function for a very simple reason. Not because I have thin skin, as others have said, but because I'm not going to get into a pissing war with people that feel the need to attack me personally. I've had issues with ShockerFever and newshock for a long time, and they obviously feel the same. I prefer to block and ignore rather than to keep going back and forth and somebody say something that might get us banned. I'm trying to avoid people having to endure the "war of words" which people seemed to be upset about, like the ones between Fever and JH4P. I thought that would be appreciated, however it appears I am wrong. So be it.

To you sir, I say have a nice day, I will always respectfully debate with someone who is respectful towards me, but if it becomes personal, then I go to ignore. And, I will continue to post what I post trying to be respectful as well.
You know, I actually agree that the refs weren't that bad last night. Or at the very least I have seen much worse.

Nowadays I just assume I will not be happy with the refs and mostly try to ignore them. Poofy hair guy really tests my ability to do that.

I, similarly, get tired of reading uneducated crap from people complaining about software, not knowing the slightest thing about what goes into it.

By poofy hair guy I assume you must mean our all time favorite Mr. Higgins? If so, he's in a class all of his own, at least in his mind..

Nope, not Higgins. I don't know this guys name but he reffed at least 2 of our games in Hawaii and well...he has poofy hair.

I admit I would be one of those people. Computers in general are frustrating to me. So then you totally get where I'm coming from. I applaud you for your work with software, I don't think I could do it.

Not the guy we had last night? The black guy? He also worked in Hawaii. I recognized him, but none of the other ones from the Diamond Head Classic.

The guy I'm talking about looks like he could be Bob Ross' brother (no beard and lighter colored hair). He was not at the roundhouse last night.

                    • If you have never actually reffed I can tell you its a lot harder than it looks.

OK, well I wouldn't know who that would be, it seems the Shox have seen a lot of new officials so far this season. We know the guy that made the 2 most horrendous calls of the game last night, it was his first Valley game (or at least Shocker game). Hopefully his last. Although I'm inclined to give the guy 1 more chance. It is possible he just had a bad game, it happens. Higgins seems to be one official that most Shocker fans have a problem with.

Exactly, unfortunately most people either don't seem to get that, or just don't care. Officiating is a no win profession. You'll never make everybody happy (although that shouldn't be the goal).

                          • My officiating experience was a couple of small-town church-league games seven or eight years ago. It wasn't much, but enough to offer a new perspective. I appreciate the insight the officials on this board give us, even if I don't agree with every conclusion.

Yep, I think if anybody puts on a striped shirt and takes the abuse for a few games, they'll have a new perspective. I did.
I appreciate giving insight on officials and debating with those that are respectful. We don't have to agree on everything, but making it personal like a few have done on this board, is crossing lines IMO.
