Watched the tape of the game this morning. When Gregg was "arguing" (yelling, screaming, etc.) at the refs and really getting pissed off, his face was not -- nice. Opposing fans are going to take a screen shot of his face (and believe me it showed a lot of emotion and fury) and post it for "proof" of how irritating, mean, childish, etc. our coach can be. This is NOT (and I repeat NOT) my opinion of Gregg. I love the guy -- but that face was not pretty.

All coaches have blow-ups every now and then. Some more frequently than others. Their jobs are on the line and when things aren't going well, sometimes it's good to send a message. Of course, some coaches are just jackasses, and I've dealt with many a those.
If that adds fuel to the fire of our opposing fans, so be it. What I see is a coach fired up, fighting for his team, and at the same time trying to send a much needed message to his own players.

Interesting enough, according to Lutz, last night was the guilty officials 15th game of the year. How is it we're in January and this guy has only 15 games? Also, he had called 6 techicals in the previous 14 yet doesn't T Gregg. Can you say intimidated?
Agreed, Marshall should have gotten one. I've stated this on other posts, but my thoughts are, the official knew he screwed the pooch, so he wasn't going to punish Marshall for his mistakes, and it probably didn't get personal enough to the point where he needed to T. That's what I'm hoping the situation was.
I just have a hard time believing that a guy who has 6 T's in 15 games would be intimidated. That stat tells me he's certainly not afraid to dish one out. Regardless, I would be just fine if he never worked another Valley game again.

And since I have somebody that feels the need to tell me what the posts are from the 2 that I've ignored (and I wish this person wouldn't), I'm using the ignore function for a very simple reason. Not because I have thin skin, as others have said, but because I'm not going to get into a pissing war with people that feel the need to attack me personally. I've had issues with ShockerFever and newshock for a long time, and they obviously feel the same. I prefer to block and ignore rather than to keep going back and forth and somebody say something that might get us banned. I'm trying to avoid people having to endure the "war of words" which people seemed to be upset about, like the ones between Fever and JH4P. I thought that would be appreciated, however it appears I am wrong. So be it.
To you sir, I say have a nice day, I will always respectfully debate with someone who is respectful towards me, but if it becomes personal, then I go to ignore. And, I will continue to post what I post trying to be respectful as well.

Now can they put together 2 great halves against Loyola. With the way the valley is this season, there are no gimmes, and WSU has to bring it. Keep the intensity rolling on!
I didn't think the officiating was as bad as some. While the crew itself wasn't great, I've seen worse. It's apparent to me that Keith Kimble was the most experienced of the crew, and he was also the most consistent. The charge call on FVV was a definite missed call, and I'm not sure what the official saw on the moving screen by Kelly. That's a no call all the way. Marshall should have gotten whacked, no doubt. I would hope the reason he didn't is because the officials realized the charge call and the moving screen were missed calls. Overall though, I thought it was a well called game. A few misses, but that's part of the game. What's also part of the game is the ref bashing. We as officials get it, but I will say I wish that some of these fans would put on the stripes and call a few games and see how it feels. They would learn it isn't nearly as easy as they make it out to be. These guys are D1 officials for a reason, and much like the Shox haven't been on top of their game lately, sometimes the officiating isn't on top of their game. It happens. Good teams find a way to get past the missed calls and use it as motivation, such as the Shox did tonight. Good for them.
Couple other notes, there's no such thing as over the back. You won't find it in the rulebook and I hate when people use that term. I also hate that restraining arc. If a player takes a charge, no matter where it is on the court, it should be a charge. Who cares if he has a foot in the stupid restraining arc. Dumbest thing ever.
Last thing, a lot of class from Bradley tonight. You knock somebody down, you help them up. Bradley did that, and that's how it should be. Muller and his Redbirds should take some lesson on class from Geno and Bradley. Well done Braves.
Well, bring on Loyola. I'm stoked that this team, despite not playing their best basketball, is 3-0 in the Valley. Just win baby!Originally posted by ShockerFever View PostYour posts would be a lot more tolerable if you left the insistent referee defending out of them. You defending refs to no end every game are as bad as those that you b**** about complaining about officiating every game. Yes, we know you're an 8th grade biddy basketball referee. We ALL understand this every time you preface it in every single game thread post. This is a message board however. And as college basketball fans, the complaints are always gonna come at the officiating. They're making a decent paycheck. They can handle it. If not, they can exit on out.
Ask Gregg how the officiating was tonight.
I think the refs had a real bad stretch in the second half, but I was too focused on our team's poor execution in the first half to noticed much out of the ordinary. After the first 5 minutes of the second half, I thought it was a pretty routinely called game, some good, some so so. Except for that 5 minutes, I think HCGM was more concerned about his team as well.
Originally posted by newshock1234 View PostI dont ***** about the refs much, but it gets really annoying from someone to claims to officiate to say he knows better than us. We dont need a scouting report on how the refs did every game from you. Dude its a freaking fan message board so get over it. Sorry to say but bitching about the refs is just part of the game. It has been and will always be. And agree with Shockerfever, they get paid well enough to handle it.
What's he need to "get over"? He understands the bashing and never directly called out another poster unlike some other posters. Oh, but I understand, it is a fan board. It's to be expected and we do.
