Another interesting comparison to last year. This year twice as many people- 2,919,000 have watched the Shocks play on national tv then last year thru 12/31- 1,486,000. The main reason the numbers are basically twice as good is that the Shockers have been on the espn family of networks 8 times this year thru 12/31 vs. 4 times last year.

Ratings for the week of Dec. 29 - Jan. 4th
It's tough for a regular season college basketball game to compete with the NFL especially on ESPNU. There were 63,000 viewers for the Illinois State at Wichita State game last Sunday afternoon. The game ranked 30th for the week on ESPNU. This is the lowest rated game for WSU so far this season. This comes the week after some pretty robust ratings during the DHC in Hawaii. To date, there have been almost 3 million viewers of the Shocker games.
Below is a listing of the top 10 for ESPNU for the week.
1. College Basketball: Louisville at Wake Forest - 533K viewers
2. College Basketball: Washington at Stanford - 230K
3. College Basketball: Kansas St. at Oklahoma St - 199K
4. College Basketball: Virginia Tech at West Virginia - 159K
5. Documentary: Rand University - 154K
6. SportsCenter (Sun. 7:30PM) - 146K
7. College Basketball: Davidson at Virginia - 140K
8. College Football Bowl Game - 127K
9. College Basketball: Texas at Texas Tech - 120K
10. College Basketball: Baylor at Oklahoma - 110K
Other College Basketball Games Involving Regional Teams:- OKST at Washington - 15th on ESPN2 - 596K viewers
- OKST at Missouri - 27th on ESPN2 - 500K
- Iowa at OHST - 29th on ESPN2 - 472K
- SMU at Cinncinnati - 54th on ESPN2 - 326K
- USF at SMU - 127th on ESPN2 - 92K
- Tulane at Memphis - 20th on ESPNU - 79K
- Georgia at KState - 27th on ESPNU - 73K
- Houston at Memphis - 42nd on ESPNU - 50K
- Tulsa at UCF - 65th on ESPNU - 34K
- Houston at Tulsa - 110th on ESPNN - 56K
- Rhode Island at St. Louis - 108th on NBCSN - 27K
- Creighton at Providence - 42nd on FS1 - 105K
- Creighton at Georgetown - 73rd on FS1 - 58K
- The highest rated college basketball game on NBC Sports Network was Duquense at Dayton with 49K viewers. It ranked only 7 spots behind the Walleye National Tour at 68th. I don't think that the Atlantic 10 conference has a very good TV contract.
- The highest rated college basketball game on FS1 was Xavier at DePaul with 183K viewers. Ranked 21st.
- The college football championship games were a huge success taking the 1 and 2 spots on ESPN. 28M watched OHST v. Alabama, and another 28M watched the Oregon v. Florida State game.
- The highest rated college basketball game on ESPN was Illinois at OHST with 1.7M viewers and a 27th ranking.

Just to add to Shocker maniac's post, the WSU-UNI game was the 4th highest rated mens college basketball game on the deuce for that week (8th overall on the deuce as pointed out by Shocke-maniac).
Some of the men's college basketball games that it beat out on the deuce include: #12 OU vs. Okie St 490k, #15 Tennessee vs. Auburn 451K, #18 Richmond vs. VCU 382K, #20 Texas vs. Baylor 372K, #36 Utah vs. UCLA 303K, and #49 TEXAS AM VS. SO. CAR. 266K. (The first # is the overall ranking on espn2 for the week, the second number is the number of viewers for that game).

The highest rated college basketball game on NBC Sports that week was SLU @ Fordham which drew just 60,000 viewers. It shows once again that even when playing in a blowout it is good to be on espn.
