  • An idea I would bring up is to have fraternities/sororities, other student organizations, and resident's halls to organize groups to go to each game.

    ----

Granted, I know Greek life students more then likely already go to games with their brothers and sisters, but try to make it a big deal and get as many as possible to go.

How about a prize (say a traveling trophy) for the house that has to best attendance through the year?!

    -----

As for the other organizations, namely ones that work on student involvement, how about organizing something special for each game?! (costume contest, best sign, etc.) You can awards premium seats or gift cards; or both!

    ------

With the growing number of students living on campus, how about having floor/building competitions within the new dorm(s).?! Could be similar to both the previous ideas I mentioned

    --------

Talking about a problems is great, but its only a problem if you have a solution. You can only achieve a solution if you have the leadership to see it though. I think that is the issue WSU has now.

They need someone to break though this apathy and complacency. Who will that be?!

    • So what's missing from college basketball is the "full" interactive experience. We need a lottery system where one student per game can ...

      A) Dress up as a referee and run around on the court and fart on cheerleaders during the game, blowing the whistle intermittently!

      B) Or, suit up in a WSU uniform and let them get some mop up minutes as a 1 minute walk-on!

      C) Or, let them stomp around on the floor next to Marshall and coach our bench players for the last minute of the match!

      D) Or, let them participate with the cheerleaders!

Kung Wu say, man who read woman like book, prefer braille!

      • Another thing, maybe you have to attend so many games, before you can sit closer to the court? Kind of like a points system.

Also, if you are NOT a student; you HAVE to sit above the band. It is a STUDENT section after all.

I'll be perfectly honest: I wish the first few rows just magically organized themselves by physical appearances. I hang my head in embarrassment when I watch a WSU home game on replay and see the same loser cast of characters for seemingly decades on end regularly attracting the TV camera attention.

I went to WSU; I know those guys don't represent the median of the WSU student body, but to an outsider who regularly watches our games they are his/her analog for "WSU Student." It drives me bonkers to know that.

WSU has boatloads of attractive chicks (married one), and a surplus of at least average dudes (am one I suppose), so for the love of all things holy please start finding a way to get them on the first few rows, as opposed to mom's basement/WoW/pro-gamer dork.

Butts-in-seats is demand. Oh-golly-gee-freebie-ticket-pick-up is not demand.

            That's the point.

            • Maybe WSU needs to hire a Director of Fan Participation and Student Involvement to make sure the student section/participation is NEVER an issue again.

ADES, if you need my resume; just ask.

That could defiantly part of the point system and competition judging! ;)

I know you are only half (if not less) joking when you say that, but the who "sex sells" notion is defiantly true. I mean, who can forget this:

                • Perhaps it is a little paranoid, but I wonder if this is a minor thing that would tip the balance on a coach who is considering another program that came calling. You almost can't do any more than Marshall has done in the last three years, yet you feel like the apathy is so overwhelming that you have to actually beg the students to show up. That can't be a positive in his mind, and I know it's embarrassing to me.

This has a whole lot of truth. I mean if you can't get a student section to fill up during easily the greatest time in Shocker basketball history, with a Top 15 program in the country, then when can you?

It's beyond embarrassing. The student section was much more organized during the Turgeon era than now. Somebody needs to step up and make it worthy of a Top 15 program. As far as filling up the seats, the athletic department better be in ultra-thinking mode and figuring out how to solve the problem. Unfortunately, I have serious doubts with that. And that may be even more embarrassing than anything the students are doing or not doing.

                    ... No really, deuces.

                    • The tickets are disappearing, so I'm sure there are enough students to fill up the section.

The issue comes down to distribution and ensuring tickets get used. Maybe fewer our no more guest passes. Things like that. I'm confident this will be resolved soon.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Probably not since the other schools have the same problem.

The easiest solution, which has been mentioned on here a few times, is to not give out tickets until the day of the game. Most students will know by then whether they will be able to make the game or not.
