  • I definitely expect it to be packed for the Alabama game. Finals will be over and Vitals is coming to town. If it isn't full, then I give up. I apologize on behalf of my shameful, stupid classmates.

    • It's interesting because I read some comments from a UNC student that said even the Heels are having issues with 'student excitement' on campus. Generational thing?

      • Maybe this is what happens when every single game is on TV. People are lazy.

I'm not lazy, but I do put value on being able to drink beer, wear sweat pants and scratch my balls in the privacy of my home while watching in perfect high definition on a 60" plasma with surround sound.

It's something I think about when looking at tickets on StubHub. Hmmmm do I pay 45 for nose bleed seats and rush to the arena after work at 6, or pay 150 for anything below row 15. And those prices will only go up as the season progresses. All that factored in, I'll take my couch and a ball scratch.

Let's all take a moment of silence and remember the plasma TV. The clearly superior product that somehow lost the game to the inferior one.

Hope mine lasts long enough to make it to the point of OLED affordability.

            • Our students are on par with any major university's student section. (obviously, major institutions are having trouble with student support at games) WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE considering where our university is right now. Even with a lot of the recent development we are just now working away from being a commuter campus with little student involvement comparatively to major universities. I think in the next couple of years as we continue to change the culture of the campus, our student section will just get better. For now, know that WSU had Thanksgiving break and finals. Students take the tickets because they are free to the students and they want to go to the game. They don't give them away because they want the option to go. As the season goes on, students will start prioritizing games over classes (which... maybe isn't a good thing. I dunno). As the years go on, we will have more and more situations where students have to camp out to get the top seats. I guarantee when that happens, students are going to go to the games they have tickets for.

They went with weight reduction and thin over refresh rates and black levels. It makes sense from a logistics and profit stand point, but still :(

I would argue that Koch Arena is a top 10 or top 20 basketball environment.
I would also argue that the WSU student section is probably not even a top 50 student section.
Koch is a great atmostphere in spite of the student section, not because of it.

You can watch it any way you choose. But watching on TV isn't nearly as exciting.

Excuses, excuses. I have a projector and 150" screen, but theres no way that I would give up my season tickets. It's less hastle to watch from home, and I can swear and throw things all I want, but there's nothing like being at the game.

                        • I would like to take a brief moment to commend the students in attendance for their phenomenal free throw routines. The vertical wave they did right before Gibbs first free throw appeared to make him pause and threw off his rhythm.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask why the student section cannot master the simple task of standing and clapping in rhythm with the rest of the arena at the start of each half. Do they need a diagram or something? I mean, even if you don't know the tradition there are literally like 9000 people demonstrating. Every game. Twice a game. It's not hard.

Lots of season ticket holders not doing that as well, especially those that sit lower (corporates?). This irks me as well, not that hard to stand and clap until an opposing FG is made.

Obviously I'm in the minority. Your post has a bunch of likes and mine has none. I just also disagree with you.

Give me screenshots from games at 50 programs (@shoxlax:, name 75 since you said it's an understatement) that don't have empty seats in their student section over Thanksgiving break.

If you're able to do that, address the second portion of my argument which is that we are historically a commuter campus. Show me a single other commuter campus that has similar student support at games.

Lay off the students. College basketball is about the students. When you forget that, you're just watching a worse version of the NBA. If it's purely about enjoying watching athletes in their prime playing basketball, watch the NBA. I stand by my point that we have a good student fanbase and it is getting better.
