Winning at Kentucky is great, it brings in booster money and sells tee shirts. It makes their fans feel really good. Great, actually. The downside is this, whether people say it as bluntly as I do, or politely ignore what is happening, everyone knows what is happening there. Everyone knows who Calipari is and what he is about. Everyone knows that Kentucky sold the last bit of deniability regarding athletics and ethics the mere second Calipari was hired. The world knows.
Now that the NCAA is warming up to paying players, you could argue that Calipari is just a "pioneer" on the "right side of history."

Yes, you are right. But when you pay before the rules are changed, you aren't a pioneer, you're a cheater. When Kentucky hired him, he was the head coach at two separate institutions that were forced to vacate entire seasons. One school and one incident could be reason to give a guy a second chance, but when the third school hires him after two major incidents and records vacated, that school gave up on any integrity and any future success will be clouded. Kentucky fans, like it or not, need to accept it.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Guess he was specifically hired for the job based on his resume and credentials :)

I would go along with the possiblility of out of 10-15 games (over 10-15 years), the best college team in the nation would possibly win one game against a bottom level NBA team.

After all, the NBA team has nothing to gain except being even more embarr-assed as for being chosen to play this game because they are the worst team in the league. All the (positive) momentum lies with the college youngsters as they have everything to gain and nothing to lose. We talk a lot about the speed of the game going from HS/JUCO to Div 1 and I don't have anything factual to base this statement on, but I would assume it is even more so going from college to the NBA.

We don't have to go very far back in Olympic BB history to remember the reason why we changed from playing our college All Stars against the rest of the World's virtually pro BB players. We were not winning.

And yes, there was a Miracle on the Ice in hockey that none of will ever forget, but this does not happen very frequently.

Still, it would be most interesting and I would pay money to see the game just for the hope that the college kids would win.

Would be cool to witness though (I think). I would be really curious to see say the Sixers guards go against the stout defensive guards the Shockers put out there. I'm quite sure an NBA squad would have it all figured out by the second half by simply just throwing it inside and letting their bigs dismantle our bigs ....but wouldn't be too surprised to see only a 9-12 point lead heading into halftime. Especially if we still had last years 3-headed monsters down low. 2nd half...that NBA lead would inevitably stretch....but "maybe" not to 32.

DISCLAIMER: AZShocker does my absolute best to rub in the beat down Kentucky gave the chickhawks. :)

BOOM! What does that say about Kentucky??? Must be on really hard times to go to the level of hiring a two-time offender. Yikes. Maybe Lexington's whole economy revolves around Wildcat success. If so...well then perhaps it was a good move for the people of Lexington. Either that...or that particular part of the "bible-belt" turns a blind-eye.

Bill Self is lucky d Rose misses a couple of free throws or chances are their season was vacated for Darrel Arthur's never graduating HS legitimately. In fact his HS had to vacate championships for the same reason. The NCAA did not want to vacate a champion, the tournament is their moneymaker. Does anyone remember a runner sitting in Ben Mclemores seats, and funneling cash to the moms bills? Plane trips, sitting with Ben's mom in Austin, plane trips to LA with Ben and his uncle, a violation. The runner became his agent and Ben fired him after 1 year, suspicious. Does this make Self dirty? The NCAA had admitted they have targeted certain programs and coaches. Bill has gotten a free pass.
ku has been bucking the system since long before roy boy williams, the dirtiest player in the game (much like another carolina favorite, ric flair) came along. they stacked the ncaa headquarters in the.. 50's? 60's? ku INVENTED the hands off, free pass approach long ago (dean smith took it with him to north Carolina, and perfected it.. with the ncaa in his beaker back pocket). the worst thing that they do, though, THE KU TRADEMARK, FOR YEARS AND YEARS, is sick the ncaa on teams that have signed some player or other over them (unless it's uk, unc, ucla etc although ku has probably sour graped on them too at some point.. especially uk). they won't accept that.

why do you think that bill self wanted to be there? he became an untouchable. roy needs a red-hot poker...

UMASS vacated 4 games, not an entire season, the NCAA sent a letter of apology to Cal as he was not implicated. Now, let me ask you this....what did Calipari have to gain by Marcus Camby taking money from an agent during the tournament? Camby was out the door as soon as the season was over. He had nothing to gain, in fact he is the one that reported it. Go look at the records...4 games were vacated. Again, tell me what Cal had to gain.

He has long said players should be given a larger stipend and he argued for years about feeding players, long before the hungry UConn kid. It is in his book. He said years ago, the NCAA would adapt or be finished. If a kid is one and done or 2 what does it matter? Cal's UK>>NBA players have over a billion in contracts counting endorsements and that is before Anthony Davis and others cash in. Would a 4 year graduate in a worthless AFAM degree make one any better?

                    • accusing teams of "cheating" is THE ku modus operandi. i'm pretty sure that marshall will be ready for anything that uk or anybody else can bring, believe it or not uk folks that might be uninformed enough to discount the best coach in the country, gregg marshall. he rules with an iron fist, yet still a players coach.

some doubts on the uk board.. trust me, van vleet is the real deal.

Coach K should have vacated a lot. Corey Maghette took money from an agent, Lance Thomas buying over $100,000 in jewelry that he suddenly had 30k to put down on in the year he was leaving. That is the sickening thing with the NCAA, they turn a blind eye (by the way the Maghette investigation was just kind of left open) or they prosecute. They had 0 business in the Penn St case, that was criminal, for the courts. The NCAA does as it pleases. I think Bilas is pretty much for their downfall as well. They are not consistent or fair. Watch what UNC gets for 18+ years of cheating. If by what they have doled out to others for far, far, less they would be shut down. It won't happen. AFAM wasn't the only dept with fraud, Weinstein offered to go deeper at 1/2 price. I wouldn't trust an investigation paid for and scope framed by UNC. They want to protect Dean as he was a god there. AFAM at UNC was created by his desire to recruit athletes, black ones who could stay eligible. Really Sharpton or Jesse should be in Chapel Hill for the shakedown. Then again they may have been paid not to go, either way $$ is all they care about.

we know by now, unc aint gettin dick done to them. forget it. hopefully, though, it may lead to the demise of the extremely hypocritical and more than a little unethical ncca org. that clean north carolina program myth (and ku, too, for you beaker lurkers) while pointing the finger at others is really f*#*%ing annoying by now.

He had everything to gain. His mistakes were that he tried to get away with **** at a school not named Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Texas or Indiana. There are a few more, but not all P-5 schools get the same treatment. The same behavior Calipari spent a lifetime modeling has followed him to Kentucky. In fact, at Kentucky, he feels empowered, almost flaunting it. I read half of his book, it's sickening. I know you think it's fine, great, buy the tee shirt. But every airport you step into wearing your tee shirt, people don't see champions, they don't see integrity, they aren't jealous, they just see cheaters. Then they make polite conversation with you. It's just the way it is. Dance with the Devil, that's the price you pay.
