Yep, he had a reputation as a guy who could rebuild programs back to respectability and was coming off three straight at-large bids at Clemson (not easy).

He wasn't a terrible hire on paper. The amount of $ they paid him and the length of his contract were pretty obscene though.

It just didn't work out (OP landed some good recruits but appears to have zero interest in coaching them up or teaching defense like he used to), and now they're right back where they were 5 years ago. It will be fascinating to see who they go after this March/April.

Oliver Purnell's teams have no heart. Both Colorado and Ohio ran layup drills on him. He had so much talent at Clemson and did so little. That's one of the reason's Gregg has endeared himself to us. Gregg's teams, if nothing else, play hard.
