And where would we hold those receptions? In the Champions Club?

Just ribbing you a little. I knew you meant exceptions. I'm probably the worst at making those Norm Crosby's.

Implement a "standby" list and those who have last minute things come up can call in and release their tickets. If you let people off the hook for certain reasons, tens of thousands of grandmas in the Wichita area are going to keep dying over and over again.

        Yes. Yes we would.

Posting using my phone isn't always a great idea. Haha.

It can't be that hard for people to recycle the tickets through the ticket office if they can't make it. Give everyone a freebie....you can't make it for an emergency AND you don't recycle, then you're on the clock (not just for this year, for your student years). Next one, you go to the back of the line.

All empty seats bother me. Students especially so since it's such an easy fix.

By the way, back of the line means you can pick up a free ticket the minute the excess go on sale to the general public.

Season ticket holders had that with the old ticket marketplace. A ticket could be listed and sold up to two hours before the game.

While I suggested last year some sort of "discipline" for not using tickets, there are many contingencies to account for. The use of a ticket marketplace, however, would handle most of the "exceptions." and scanning the student ID along with the ticket barcode would make tracking usage relatively easy. As for discipline, maybe something akin to priority points could be adopted where non-use (along with not listing tickets) would move a person 250 positions down the priority list.

And, they have to get there before the 2nd half begins, at which time the arena and ticket office doors will be locked.

And how do you handle the corporate/business/big donors that let tickets go unused?

Was addressing student tickets. Hard to "discipline" a corporation, especially ones that donate substantially.

But honestly, I think it might be worth trying a system similar to ticket marketplace where all the "corporate tickets" (or anybody who would like to utilize the system voluntarily because they travel to games or perhaps have extra tickets) would be placed in the marketplace at the beginning of the season. The "owner" would then have up to 5 pm the day before the game to "retrieve" the tickets. Any ticket not so retrieved would be placed on stubhub at face value plus stubhub fee, so the corporation would receive the face value for any sold ticket (of course, they would be strongly encouraged to donate those funds to WSU). Retrieved tickets could be printed out just like stubhub tickets now.

Not a bad approach. Sorry, I was reading too quickly, saw marketplace and priority list and made a wrong assumption.

                    • I think it's funny that they are giving first crack at student tickets to students who attend the women's game. At the very least, its making students put a little sweat equity into the tickets and assuring that those who really want to go to the game are getting tickets.

Saw a comment about those people who don't support both teams not being true Shocker fans. I must say that is very false. I love the Shockers as much as the next person but dang, sitting through a women's basketball game is a lot. I have a hard enough time watching my nieces play sports and I love them even more.

Regardless I hope the students don't complain too much because once they are all graduated, its much more expensive to buy season tickets with the SASO donation. They have it good.

                      • I know it would create some other issues but the simplest solution would be to release 5-10% more student tickets than seats.

There were variations on the theme - stay overnight, don't stay overnight with check-ins, numbered positions, etc. It was mostly a disorganized mess.

We always dreaded the day when the line started - that meant it was time to line-up ourselves. Late 70's/early 80's amid the Antoine, Cliff, Ozell, Randy, X-Man era, line-up might last up to a week.

Something similar occurred every season I attended WSU.

BTW, I do not think students should pay for WSU games. They have been stuck with plenty of fees to support athletics already.

Yes, those were the days. I remember one season - I think it was '81, we had Carr and Levingston returning, along with Tony Martin, and Aubrey, Xavier and Greg Dreiling coming in. Excitement and anticipation were as high as ever. For some reason, the athletic department turned over the task of student season ticket distribution over to the student-faculty senate, of all places. They were totally unnprepared for an October meeting where the subject was discussed amid a packed house. All kinds of schemes were talked about - a lottery, an Oklahoma land rush. Finally, they just settled on a first come-first served system, which meant a camp out for us students. The night arrived and it was cold and and rainy, but we got our tickets. One of the most enthuisiastic student sections ever.

After releasing the 10% extra, you do a first come first serve. Once the student section fills up you stop admitting them.

                            • Wouldn't it be easier to sell a ticket that is refundable if used?
