      • Come on guys. The new direction of the MVC is participation ribbons.

        • I'm glad I've only been to Arch Madness one year (last year) and love roadtrips. My biggest problem with the Valley is the Casey's pizza sponsorship. It's a gas station, why are they famous for pizza?

Why? BECAUSE NO ONE GIVES A SH1T! Again, I don't want to take anything away from the past couple of season's, but honestly, that's all you've got. And I hate to continue to rain on your parade, but in case you haven't noticed inside your cave there in Witchita, fans are fickle. Of course when you have successful seasons, fans show up in droves but have a down year and those same fans are nowhere to be found. You're the "flagship university" NOW, sorta like the flavor of the week but that hasn't always been so. SIU and CU have had this similar run in conference dominance in the recent past, you aren't staking any new territory that hasn't all been visited. During those runs, those schools fans dominated attendace. They were by far the majority come conference tourney time so to act as if WSU's attendance in St. Louis or the couple of ESPN games is some sort of gift is laughable. You do realize SIU hosted Gameday right? The point is that WSU isn't the only school to have their share of the limelight. It comes and goes so get over yourself. What's amazing and more so disapointing is this lack of vision outside of your yellow shaded glasses. The "my daddy is the strongest" attitude is a little pathetic. You're not owed anything so quit bitching. Enjoy your success and stop being such a douche.
What's funny is our bandwagon'ers still outnumber your whole fan base. The other funny thing is the only other success you can tout is from Creighton and SIU--not even your own teams.

I have been a die-hard Shocker fan since the 70's, so I've felt the painful years of the 90's and have enjoyed the last decade. So in light of our "recent" success, not only will I cheer our well-deserved national recognition, but will equally complain about carrying the weight of the Valley on our shoulders...not only from the perspective of success, but from a financial one as well. You and the rest of the league can thank us for that.

            • Yeah, it's all cyclical and WSU is "just in an up cycle" right now. It's been a pretty long cycle.

Previous coach was here 7 years and had a national top-10 ranking and a S16. Current coach is in his 8th year, has a national #2 ranking, an NIT championship, an NCAA #1 seed, a F4, and a NCoY. Please name any other school in the Valley with two consecutive coaches with that kind of a track record. That "little cycle" that WSU is on covers 2 coaches and 15 years.

If you wnt to dig a little deeper - well this isn't fair to most of the rest of the Valley, since they were playing in some JV version of college basketball throughout most of WSU's history, but...

              '60's - national #2 ranking, F4
              '70's - down
              '80's - national #2 ranking E8
              '90's - down
              '00's - national #8 ranking, S16
              '10's - national #2 ranking, #1 seed, F4, - and we're only 4 years into the decade.

The Shox have been nationally significant in 4 of the last 6 decades. Fans of other Valley schools fondly remember the '90's because that's the ONE decade out of the last 4 when the Shox were not nationally relevant. Plus, that's about the time many other Valley schools were actually achieving D1-type teams instead of the JV-type teams they had when they entered the Valley.

The Valley picked up a lot of teams just coming into D1 classification. Who was in the Valley that helped those teams become legitimate D1 teams? WSU, Tulsa, Creighton, Bradley, and Drake. If not for those 5 schools, all those former D2 schools could have banded together to form something resembling the SWAC.

Of those 5 schools, only 3 remain and 2 of those aren't doing much to help the Valley's image and status.

Redbird fans owe us big time. Without WSU's national prominence in 4 of the last 5 decades, the Missouri Valley is probably somewhere beneath the Horizon League in respect and talent.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Um, because it's yummy deliciousness and they put an addictive chemical in it that makes you crave it nightly, smartass.

Ooooo, you're going buy my pizza.

Hate to admit it, but yep, that gas station pizza is pretty damned good! I think it's their special Columbian oregano.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

I live in Chicago now, one of the few places that a style of pizza is named after and I have to say when I was broke and in college, Cassey's was famous for their pizza. It was cheap and better that ccs or little Caesars. For college kids, Casey's pizza is pretty good.
I just want to stand on land...

Not bad. On a par with Pizza Hut, I would say.

                        • Apparently, I've made a huge mistake. I will not back down on seeing way too many Casey's commercials though.

They should play the World Cup every 8 years instead of 4.... :)
