Interesting concept. If a HS recruit shows up and appears to need a year - and is willing - send him to Sunrise for a year instead of using a scholarship on a red shirt year.

There's always a risk of losing a player in that situation, but if Marshall can work that one out, he's on to something about as promising as having players pay theirt own way for a red shirt or transfer year.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

The Sunrise coach's comments on Sports Daily were interesting. Sees Nurger as another Paul Miller. Could probably add another 15-20 pounds on his frame. Should be able to contribute this year and be a force in the years to come. Of the 3 or 4 D1 bigs at Sunrise who are going to Arizona, Minnesota, and USF, Nurger was as good as any of them

From what I saw, Nurger is far more athletic and explosive than Paul. Similar size, but where Paul was further along offensively, Nurger appears to be further along defensively.

Have always wondered how these prep schools fund these teams. I'm talking about tuition/room and board/ travel etc. I've gone to a few games at Sunrise, and the money is not coming from the gate.

              Thanks extra mucho.

I assume he is Blue 13.

I am with KC Shocker. Just a short while ago, some were thinking we might have a 5 weakness. Now we have a 5 strength.

Of the three 5 candidates, I am most excited about Blue 13.

I wonder, if Blue 13 can play the 4.

Call me crazy, but .... never mind.

If 7 comes here, I will not enjoy the season because I will have died of a heart attack.

And they can still have a redshirt year if needed when they get here.

                    Yes, I agree.

I feel extra good about this recruit and his contributions this and future years.

Some stats would be nice. Like all European players, I imagine that he can drill free throws.

On Sports Daily, they indicated 10 points and 9 rebounds with relatively limited touches playing with Zach, Marvin Clark, and several other high major players on the team. And those might have just been his stats against the 15 juco teams they played, where he more than held his own. Another set of points and rebounds were thrown out that were lower.

Might need to listen to the podast. Hour two at about the 25 minute mark.

Edit: I went back and listened to to podcast. The 10/9 stats were just in the games against the juco teams. No other stats provided.

                        Stats from Estonia's U21 national team: 10.2 PPG (46.7% FG, 25.0% 3PT, 57.1% FT), 5.4 RPG, 1.8 BPG

I can't find stats from Sunrise Christian's prep team, which played mainly against JUCOs. So he's had a year of development since then. It appears that international competition seems to keep stats relatively low compared to America high schools, where 20 and 30+ PPG averages are fairly common among top recruits. The top Estonian scorer had just 13.7 PPG. Also, Estonia does not seem to have a U22, which may explain Rauno playing a year for Sunrise Christian's prep team.

I'm not sure if I like the hanging on the rim and jawing at the guy he just dunked on, but I would imagine HCGM will have that nipped in the bud.

Probably telling him sorry for kicking him when he swung on the rim.

I'd rather have a player with too much edge that needs to be corralled than a nice player that you have to get playing angry. Imagine if Stutz had that kid's edge.

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.
