You know what? I think I have the right to have a little bit of hurt feelings over this. I've been a fan of this team for over 25 years. I believed in this program and stuck up for this program when there was no good reason to do so, because I knew the fans were true and if we found the right person to lead, we could make magic here. So it all comes true!! We go to a Final Four! We have an undefeated regular season! We set an NCAA record in the process! And what do we get? The ol' Stepping Stone label from a LOCAL SPORTS REPORTER. Really?! You are THAT secure in your job to basically insult your bread and butter in print?!

Yes, Marshall could eventually leave for another job. So could Billy Donovan. There are only a handful of D1 jobs that aren't Stepping Stones: UCLA, Kentucky, Indiana, UNC, Duke, UConn, and KU. Maybe Louisville. That leaves 350 D1 jobs that are Stepping Stones. Everybody knows this. It's not particularly intelligent or insightful to point out this obvious fact about any one school, and it's a darn sight stupid for someone to point it out about the local school when you depend on the good graces of those fans for your livelihood.

And what the hell did she expect?! Did she think the same fans that traveled to St. Louis and Indianapolis were going to say, "Yes, she makes a really good point with that statement! We really are not that good of a program!"?

And that blow-off of hers just iced it for me. I gave her the comparisons, and she came back with the most weak-sauce non-explanation.

I got no more use for her. She has gone the way of the Gottlieb as far as I am concerned. Far more enamoured with the sound of her own voice than anything else.

I left my post pretty vague for a reason, I've just seen some interesting points brought up ITT that don't really epitomize the "true" fans you speak of, just uninformed. Idk why Bates wrote wat she did and if she even believes that garbage ... But some of the responses just make me lol

I think since Jenn is on Sports Daily this week, an opportunity could be had to have her better explain herself with these comments. I mean she's not even in the ballpark with this ****. It's funny because I really liked her reporting and deliveries. But she's completely crapping it up with this bullshit. Completely.

Now it's starting to make sense how WSU gets less and less coverage on KWCH and how KU starts taking lead stories on WSU game nights.

Oh but that means you'd have to listen to sports daily to figure out when she'd be on. Not a risk worth taking.

I have little doubt that Jenn looks at her current job as a stepping stone. Not that there is anything inherently wrong with that. I'm sure she would love to get back to Florida someday. Between that mindset and a BCS superiority that is no doubt ingrained in her it is understandable that she would look at WSU in this way. She is certainly entitled to her opinion. The important thing is not how Jenn Bates or anyone else for that matter views 3G's job at Wichita State but how Gregg and Lynn Marshall view his job at Wichita State and their lives in Wichita, Kansas. Everything else is just noise.

Since Mizzou is clearly an upgrade from WSU maybe she should move to the metropolis of Columbia, MO and run her reporting gig from that mega market. I mean it's a major step up, right?

It seems many people try to compare our program to where Gonzaga is as a program. I do hope we can maintain a level of consistency and dominance that Gonzaga has achieved. I think this is the blueprint for us. The problem is the MVC doesn't have a BYU or Saint Marys. The WCC > MVC. As much as it is hard to admit losing Creighton was huge. I honestly don't see a team in the Valley getting to the point where they could make the tournament as an at-large bid consistently. We have done what we need to here at WSU, but the other teams have not. Replacing Creighton with Loyola? Really? I think we are at a position where our conference is going to hold us back. I also think this could be a factor in Marshall leaving if he ever decides to go. I don't think he is the kind of guy that will enjoy beating up and inferior competetion every year.

Sure there can be. The problem with the MVC at this point is programs won't invest in basketball (some because of fake football) in keeping their coach. If program(s) will step up and keep a good coach then you can build something. But if you have a coach jumping as soon as they have a little success like Cuonzo or the Drake coach - then these program are constantly starting over. MVC going to get better, but how many coaches will jump at their first chance?
