So I did a thing.

I sent a tweet to Ms. Bates comparing WSU's program now to Florida's in 2005 (the year before they won the first national title). The comparisons are uncanny. They both came from really dark times (Florida's first time making the NCAA tournament was 1987), got rebuilt through one coach (Turgeon for us, Kruger for them), then handed off to another coach that took the program to the next level. Both had precisely 2 Final Four appearances before their first national title (to be only a little presumptuous).

She didn't like that, and when I asked her why she didn't think WSU could follow Florida's recipe, she replied:

"It's a different world now man."

I was actually dumbstruck by her attempt to "win" the argument through being vague and arbitrary. After several minutes of thinking, the only response I thought that was appropriate was:

"No, no it isn't."

See? I can be vague and self-affirming too.

Wow. I lost a LOT of respect for her today. I wonder if her lease is almost up at her apartment. Maybe there's a job she's angling for in Kansas City.

Wow. I was going to stay out of this but this just reeks of immaturity and naivite. She might have still been in diapers in 1987 and it may seem like the "olden days" to her, but college basketball was not much different then than it is now. You can argue that college baseball is different now vs. the 80's when the shockers were dominant, but don't pull that stuff with basketball. Programs come and go with the decades and there's no reason to believe WSU can't be the next Memphis or UConn eventually. All you need is a great coach, strong fanbase, loyal boosters and and administration that doen't take the situation for granted. What would Syracuse be without Boeheim or Duke without Coach K? These schools are nothing special (well Duke is great academics) outside of these longstanding coaches. To just assume we are a stepping stone and that Missouri is somehow paying Millions more is pure fantasy. We my have been a stepping stone for Turge, but look where that took him. I bet he's just loving life right now. It's not always the school that's the stepping stone, but the mentality of the person deciding if he needs to take another step.

I think since Jenn is on Sports Daily this week, an opportunity could be had to have her better explain herself with these comments. I mean she's not even in the ballpark with this ****. It's funny because I really liked her reporting and deliveries. But she's completely crapping it up with this bullshit. Completely.

Now it's starting to make sense how WSU gets less and less coverage on KWCH and how KU starts taking lead stories on WSU game nights.
