Am surprised at all the chatter about replacing Jans as it took him five years to gain ass't head coach and if one of the current guys isn't promoted, the new guy or guys will have to earn that position he same way Coach Jans did. The one thing for certain is that the coming weeks and months are going to be filled with interest and excitement about new coach(s) AND players because we may still lose another before the dust settles.

If I was the executive, I would have concern about the selection of#2.

If I bring in a new coach as the #2, then how will the current assistant coaches feel about the situation. Some resentment maybe.

There could be some delicacy involved.

If Coach Moton was hired, he would have strong status and probably would be more accepted by the current assistance coaches.

If Moton (or someone of his stature) is hired, they could be made Associate Head.

If lesser, probably no designation would be made.

That would just be phenomenal if we got any head coach from an MEAC program to come here as an assistant. But Moton, that would just be unreal.

Another option would be to sign a JUCO/AAU HC that could bring in a go-to player. Not HCGM's style necessarily, but I wouldn't mind it.

I thought that was now against NCAA rules to do such a thing.

It's always been against the rules to do such a thing, but the NCAA picks and chooses when to enforce them. (E.g., Ed Manning -- who also lacked a college degree as required by university policy -- ending up on the KU staff at coincidentally just the right time for Danny to switch his plan from North Carolina to Kansas; or some of the guys who coach teams like DC Assault and other big name AAU teams and end up as assistants.)

I'm glad Marshall doesn't operate that way.

They can hire them. They just have to get coaching position not a "Player Development" or "Video Coordinator" type position.

Moton would be a really cool "get" but it seems fairly unrealistic. I'll gladly eat my hat if he shows up in Wichita.
