Maybe I should get defensive when I see people with no clue talk about how abrasive he is, and how rumor is that he's a dick and not many AD's like him, but I can't do it. I'm too busy sitting here loving it and soaking it in with a giant smile on my face.
If you think fans are trashing Marshall, imagine how much they trashed Bobby Knight. How many do you think would have complained if their school had hired Knight?

Marshall at Kentucky? That would be disastrous for everyone involved. Imagine Marshall signing a couple of top-10 recruits, guaranteed to be one-and-done, and then sitting them because they don't play D. The UK fans would riot in the streets of Lexington.

Marshall could be a very good NBA coach. He would be a very bad NBA minor league coach, and that's what Kentucky fns want.

      • Coach Cal was just pretty adamant (on an ESPN interview) about staying at Kentucky next year.

Take that for what it is worth.

        • I dont completely trust coach Cal. I'm a Phil Jackson fan. I went from the Bulls to Lakers. Murry sits too much for me to go to the Knicks train wreck. So I'm still with the Lakers. I never liked the Dantoni hire & dont like Calipari either.

Judging from his degree of success "at this level," Calipari seems to have found the college game a better fit for himself than the NBA was.

That is assuming the five stars have a work ethic of an all American three star and the intelligence to play more than one on one basketball. Marshall's system makes him a great coach. Play hard nosed D, run intelligent sets, pass the ball. To take that away is to take away his entire DNA. He is no Calipari. Cal couldn't coach himself out of a hole in the ground. Survives by cheating to gain an advantage, even with the best talent in North America.

              • I think Marshall would have a style more similar to Pitino at UK and would be extremely successful.

I would think that the past two seasons' success would legtimize Marshall's approach to building and coaching a team to be NC-caliber and worthy. In fact, I submit that the success he has had since his second and each successive season has proven to himself that what he is doing is putting his program exactly where he wants and thought he could. Not that he himself needs the reenforcement but I would suspect that he wants to get the NC in Wichita before moving to the next challenge.

He turned down the UCLA job last year for Christ's sake. Even tough they've been down for quite some time, that is a storied program and he told them no. I just don't see Marshall leaving WSU for UK or any other program for the next few years.

                  • I can think of at least 7 schools I would be concerned about HCGM leaving to coach. Kentucky is definitely one of them.

                    • I'd like to preface this by saying that I think Calipari is staying at UK.

But if he doesn't, I think they might offer HCGM the job. People like to say HCGM rubs AD's the wrong way so no program wants him. I think Cal is not a coach a lot of people like either. Also I think if he gets offered the job, he'd leave. If he left for Kentucky, I'd have no hard feelings. That's one of the few elite programs now and historically.

Absolutely he does! Of course he wanted one at Winthrop too. That's part of what makes him special.

The UCLA situation was not anywhere near as enticing as Kentucky, for many reasons.

He can get it here. He couldn't get it at Winthrop.

                            • When he describes the "ideal situation" that it would take for him to leave, the UK job fits every criteria.

                                Not all of them.
