Almost, RMS -- as historians now know, the answer to your last question is actually "the Gregg Marshall islands."

    • Are the Tennesee fanboys serious in thinking Marshall had an easy last 3 years and the tournament run last year was an "easy" run? Why would Marshall leave what he has built and his family likes for a puddle jumper school like Tennesee? That isn't a job you stay at, you work a few years and leave. They would need to offer upwards of $2.5 to get him...if money was the only thing.

You make a good point that these "sources" are not always very good. I don't dispute that at all. I just don't think ******* did anything different than what most others in his profession do. They get asked about coaching vacancies and they throw out names. Marshall spent a lot of time in SEC country, so him getting consideration from an SEC school that has had some recent basketball success isn't all that crazy. I don't think it will happen, but the comments about ******* just trying "to be relevant" seemed like an attack on him because people on here hate him, not because he just did anything stupid this time around. Its a common trend on Shockernet... if you get on certain posters' bad side, you can't even take a drink of water without getting criticized for it.

I would. UNC has lost a bit of its luster (see UCLA) and while it used to be considered a "blue-blood", they have kinda exited the convo. So while location gives UNC an extra positive, like UCLA the situation would be far from perfect.

In the last 10 years UNC has been to 6 Elite Eights, 3 Final Fours, and won 2 National Titles while winning 29 tournament games.

Kentucky has been to 5 Elite Eights, 2 Final Fours, and won 1 National Title while winning 23 tournament games.

UCLA has been to 3 Elite Eights, 3 Final Fours, and won 0 National Titles while winning 13 tournament games.

So basically, I would disagree. The other Blue Bloods aren't comparable to UCLA.

I don't think I've heard anyone try to take UNC out of the blue-blood conversation before, or compare them to UCLA.

UNC is a much better job, and a far, far bigger draw to someone from that area. UNC also doesn't have the insane arrogance of UCLA, where they will fire a coach for only making the Final Four.

I see no evidence that ******* is making this news up. One could comment that Tennessee is only expressing interest in order to cover their own butt when boosters ask who they are looking at, but once again, that leads to a discussion of Tennessee, not *******. ******* is paid to report what we might call "silly", "unlikely", "goofy" things such as "Tennessee interested in Marshall". In this case, I see no reason to believe he is doing anything other than his job. No need for criticism here.
*******'s tweet was opinion, not news. He didn't say anything similar to "my sources say Tennessee will be interested in speaking with Gregg Marshall." Had he done so, you give him the benefit of the doubt.

If someone asks him his opinion and his opinion is that they'll go after Marshall, there's no reason to simply assume his opinion is based on sources.

                          • Please don't put me in the doghouse with *******, but why wouldn't Tennessee love to have Marshall? Makes sense they would be interested. Not so much sense that Marshall would be interested in them.

It simple the FANS - they have treated him like crap since he was hired with their unrealistic expectations, their irrational love for Pearl, and have been very critical of him during his short term and never given him his honeymoon. They were starting a petition to bring back Pearl and calling for Martin to be fired - You’re not Bruce Pearl!
