That's some serious jack. VTs basketball budget is half Marquettes, and Williams is taking a big pay cut by going to VT. Must be something going on at Marquette.
    Yes. This isn't a lateral move -- it's a clear step down.

Something weird is up with this.

I'm sure Marquette would be thrilled to have him and would be happy to pursue him (hence the source). Hard to imagine why he'd have any interest, though: a step up in league, but a step down in program from where WSU is now.

Marquette and Tom Crean would both benefit from a reunion.

Also on the short list: John Wooden, Phil Jackson, Laverne and Shirley.

Expect Ben Howland to be in play for one of these jobs.

He seems the obvious choice for Marquette.

Former Big East coach who needs a job and can get paid well to compete for championships.

Tom Crean is perfect for Indiana. ;)

@GoodmanESPN: ICYMI -- Buzz Williams left Marquette for Virginia Tech. Here's why and also who Marquette is looking at:

That's weird. That article says that Gregg Marshall would likely have interest. If they just mean Marquette would be interested in HCGM, that seems like an odd way to phrase it. And if they mean HCGM is interested in the Marquette job, I believe their source is lying.

If you ask me, it's just a mighty convenient time to start tossing his name around for speculation and rumors. Just attempting to toss another disraction at the team.

The Marquette job opening wouldn't even be news on SN if not for ******* talking out of his ass. Let the national level media member be the glorified troll that he is.

From what I have seen via a quick forum look-see, most Marquette fans see 3G as an unrealistic target themselves.

If Buzz leaves Marquette for VT, that's all that needs to be said about the state of that program.

That being said, Howland would be a good hire for them.

That is an absolute home run hire for Virginia Tech. Weird choice by Buzz, but still a great get for VT. The Hokies' AD earned serious cred with that upgrade.

BE is gonna be strugg city next year. Villanova and Georgetown will be good....then things fall off a cliff pretty fast.

If they add WSU and VCU, they will be alright ;)
