I think it's a stretch to say Marshsall wouldn't be here without Turgeon. That's only true in the sense that if Turgeon had not bailed then we wouldn't have had an open HC job.

I am much more inclined to give Jim Schaus and the Roundhouse renovation credit for attracting Marshall.

Also I think too much credit is given to Turgeon and not enough credit to Randy Smithson for the programs resurgence. Randy took a program in the celler and improved it to around .500 basketball. Granted that's not what we wanted in the long term but it was a step in the right direction after years of garbage.

Call me crazy, that's ok. I personally think this is a fascinating topic and enjoy the discussion when it pops up. I was very disappointed when Turg left but that didn't last long. Another positive that came with his departure is that it cleaned the program of the stench of the flagship.

I agree. Why the Turg bashing? I wish him all the best. I'll always be grateful for his efforts turning around our beloved Shocker basketball program.

I know there are mixed opinions and what not about MT... But i've always thought while he gave us one great season.. the way he left us after the whole, IM STAYING.... was unacceptable... and that he was always just using us...

          This is a dumbass topic.
MT inherited the program post-Randy and resurrected it from the dead. He still supports WSU and has done so through his actions.

SN gets posters like this, especially after achieving the recent level of success. Everybody wants to jump on board.

I would hope the Mods have a 'dumbass option' on here that enables them to immediately delete bullshit like this one.

          That is all.
Above all, make the right call.

While I appreciated all the things accomplished by both Randy , and Mark,, I never really bought into the feeling that Mark was a WSU fit. and in the end I think I was right . he was and is a KU , blueblood type coach. and am glad for what he did while he was here. But always had the feeling he didn't really want to be here, and it showed in his "at this level" comments. Call me crazy but I think the players he was trying to recruit sensed it too, which may be why he missed on so many of them. and in the end he lost control of the ones he did get here, which led to the bad JU JU that ensued. Just my .02 worth ,, Now let's get back to enjoying the ride we're on !!!!

Appears to me that Mark has a pretty good life. One most of us would love to have. Coaching college basketball at a high level. Making tons of money. A good family. A good man.

He had his ups and downs as Shocker head man. We've had a few that have only had downs. I don't think Mark particularly pioneered anything that has lead to where we are now. In fact, Coach Marshall had to pretty much start over from scratch with what Mark left behind.

I think Mark is more or less on par with Eddie Fogler in Shocker coaching history. Maybe a notch above Eddie since he stayed a little longer. Neither will ever be Shocker Hall of Famers but both had their good moments.

Coach Marshall has the Shocker Hall of Fame locked up. The question for Coach Marshall is will his likeness end up on a banner next to Ralph Miller in the Koch Arena rafters. We are so very lucky to have Coach Marshall. We need to focus on what we can do to make Wichita State his last coaching stop. Finding a better league affiliation, if possible, may well be job no. 1.

As far as I'm concerned, when Turg retires he needs to go into the Shocker hall of fame. Shocker basketball was dead when he started.

Ok, so it was MOSTLY dead which is slightly alive. Turg performed a miracle. He got players to believe and made WSU competitive at a time when the Valley didn't suck. We won the Valley in 06 which now appears to be one of the best years this conference has had in a long time. Since he left he has never talked **** on this place. He even gave us love last year and MK said Turg was pulling for us. Sure, he wasn't like Marshall with his "at this level" talk. Turgeon was technically correct and Marshall just doesn't except the premise. But there is no reason to drop the haterade on the guy at all. The people that do look stupid and childish.

Most people underestimate what Tad brought to the program. He is the one who should get a majority of the credit.

If you could do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing...coaching wise.

Yeah, and I think that was a short-sighted move by Maryland. Sure, the Big 10 is a stable conference, but so is the ACC. Bringing in Louisville to replace them will be, if anything, an upgrade for the ACC in both football and basketball.

I think the move had more to do with football than anything else, well, except money. It had a lot to do with money and some with football.

I don't think it was a short-sighted move my Maryland, I think they made out like a bandit. They got a $30 million subsidy from the BIG just for increased travel expenses.

I think its a bit BS to say Turgeon brought us up. I think he did for a season but when he left he left the cupboard so bare. I remember watching that 2008 team... it was difficult to watch.

If anyone built up this program it was Jim Schaus, that guy did a stellar job.

Lets all be honest. Wichita is a blue collar town, a blue collar university, and now a blue collar team.
Mark Turgeon (Larry Brown disciple, Kansas player, etc...) was raised with a silver spoon.

We were just waiting to have a blue collar coach. :)
"Coach Marshall,We will be at Creighton at least 15 hours in advance!"
CGM--->"Hell yea, and we'll beat their ass."

point is yes you are right the cupboard was bare, but without the sweet 16 run HCGM would have never came here.
