Actually, only people within range of the transmitter signal for KWCH had access to the games (if that's what you mean by local). But then that would eliminate everyone in Kansas outside that range and definitely everyone outside of Kansas.

That isn't even a valid comparison number wise to the amount of people that don't have Cox. Come on, TMH.
Your avoiding the entire point. If there very existence of games that exclude part of the audience is an outrage, then ESPN games are an outrage alongside Cox 22 games.

Yes, over the air games are not as subject to this criticism (although they are often geographically more exclusive), but why are you complaining that a game is on Cox 22 and not complaining that a game is on ESPN? Because you happen to have ESPN? You complain about people with Cox dismissing your situation, then you do the very same thing towards people without cable. You want me to care about your situation, but are not willing to extend any sympathy towards those with even less access?

We all make choices about what we will pay to have access to (and those choices come with both pros and cons in every case). It is perfectly fine to express a wish that the option you chose came with more pros, but another thing entirely to act like you have been wronged because of the cons.

On the issue of the negotiations themselves, I have no knowledge of what offers are/have been on the table. If someone have definite information about that, I would be happy to hear it, but I'm not going to get in an argument about whether WSU made the right call on the basis of pure speculation that a better offer is out there.

My issue is, how do they determine who can watch on ESPN3 in what areas... As I said. My buddy with Uverse, who lives in Wichita, and watched the game in Wichita last night said he could watch it on ESPN3.. Can anyone else verify this?

Second issue.. Does it know where I am watching from? Like if I tried to login to my ESPN3 account from Wichita, could I have watched last night? The blackout thing is what confuses the hell out of me.
        From http://espn.go.com/watchespn/faq#blackout

How is my location determined if the event is blacked out? What is a Blackout?
If you see a message that states, "This content is subject to blackout", this is because the event that you requested is not available on WatchESPN in your location. Your location is determined by your IP Address.

Blackouts apply to telecasts that have been sold regionally or locally per league, conference and local rights holder agreements. Regional and local rights holders are usually broadcast stations or regional sports networks. Blackouts are implemented to protect the primary rights holder, as defined by the professional and college sports leagues or teams in a given market.

Regardless of it all... I just want an online option available, whatever way WSU wants to go. I will pay for it. But watching live sports online, out of market, is really going to be the future. Or already is, really. Why I love the ESPN3 thing.

The best offer is what Cox puts out.

            Working with Cox

WSU and Cox are finalizing a contract that will extend their relationship for five years or more, according to Cox programming manager Mark Ewing.

While Cox will not release its number of subscribers, it is available in 94 communities in Kansas, according to public affairs director Sarah Kauffman.

WSU’s local package with Cox is superior to other MVC schools, none of whom put more than eight men’s basketball games on local cable and broadcast outlets, according to Watkins. Cox also includes women’s basketball, baseball and volleyball games, in addition to 24 editions of the Shocker Sports Report.

Cox pays for production costs for the games, Brewer said, which generally run around $20,000 to $25,000, regardless of the sport.

That arrangement can’t please all fans. Fans who subscribe to satellite, AT&T U-Verse Internet TV are left out. So are those without cable and those in parts of Kansas not served by Cox.

Cox, at the request of WSU, does share its broadcasts with ESPN3.com but blacks them out in Kansas and parts of Missouri. Those fans can watch replays of the blacked-out games.

Maybe your buddy is using a fake IP address making it look like he's outside the blacked out area.

Hahah. He doesn't even know what IP address means.. surprised he even tried to watch it on ESPN3.

Did anyone else with Uverse try ESPN3 from Wichita? Anybody out there?

The current situation is far better than it was 10 years ago. Then there were about three games a year that were broadcast.

You guys are ALL missing the point.

I noticed from Facebook after the games last night that KU fans were angry at WSU because they wanted to watch their scrimmage against TCU but ALL of the sports bars were chock full of black and yellow. There were no sports bars to go to in this city of WICHITA, while a WICHITA State game was being played. There was some very colorful and extremely entitled, surprised whining going on in my FB news feed.

I was very proud to be at a sports bar last night with just one or two KU fans in the sea of Shocker gear and they had trouble getting a seat with a good view of the cute little tv over on the side that was showing their game.

If Cox had anything to do with this because none of us could watch at home, then I can get behind that.

Hmmmm, there are many KU fans that think they "own" Wichita.

Sure, there are more people with access to ESPN than Cox 22, but if it is unfair that people who pay for a specific tv service have access to it and those who don't pay do not have access, it applies just as much to ESPN as to Cox 22.

I am certainly willing to listen to a discussion about what broadcast options might be available that could expand access to the games, but the outrage seems over the top to me. When I have been without cable in the past I have been frustrated at missing out on games on cable channels, but I never thought that I was being wronged because I didn't have access.
Not that anything you said here was wrong, but to me, as someone who lives outside of Wichita and Cox's purview, signing contracts exclusive to Cox is like saying, "Let's just admit that no one outside of the Wichita area wants to watch us." As you said, however, that is more of a discussion about future contracts and marketability versus the present discussion. ESPN3 also has changed a lot of that, too.

Myself, where I live Time Warner can pick up the Cox22 games, but I was on hold with Time Warner reps for about 3 of the first 24 hours I had it installed at my house because of service issues. Within a few months Google Fiber was available, and I don't believe anyone in their right mind would not have made that switch.

As you and others have said, I still have the option to watch the games, but it's just so small time to have to jump through all the hoops and make significant sacrifices in order to exercise that option.

Oh, and as to the original post in this thread, Shockervision is only for home games, not road games.

It's fun to do so on weekend games anyways, but I don't feel like going out to sports bars on Tuesday and Wednesday nights when I just as easily could watch from home.

Once again, Cox customers have priority. But of course, everybody else are the spoiled ones.
Hell, I feel like drinking beer in a sports bar on any day ending with a y.
