Yes well I guess you know which crowd I fall in, although just barely :). I think Kareem was probably a little better albeit just because of experience!!!

Even the best refs in the world will occasionally miss a call when the play happened a little too fast to pick up all the details or other circumstances prevented them from seeing the play in detail. Under the new rules, those missed called will almost automatically be defensive fouls.

To me, the idea of the new rules to punish defenders that grab and use their hands and promote the idea of defenders using their feet and playing "smart" basketball. That's all fine and dandy, but I saw several times in our last game where the defender DID keep their feet in front of the defender and kept their hands off the offensive player at all times. And then when the offensive player initiated contact and flung up a shot, they were rewarded with FTs. By the new rules the defender did everything asked of them, and yet the reality is that the new rules will tend to be marginalized by the tendency to simply call all contact on a drive as a foul.
Yep, that is exactly how I feel about it. REwarding out of control bull rushes to the basket will take alot of the enjoyment of the game away for me. I guess we just need to give this some time. It seems whenever anything new is instituted, the pendulum swings completely the other way then eventually it moves back more toward the middle. Let's hope this happens quickly with this.

The refs are afraid to call it. Let's hope that after a couple of weeks have gone by that the supervisors of officials will see the issue and correct it.
yes, that is what I'm hoping for. They've gone completely the other way from what we had gotten used to, hopefully it won't take too long to go back to a more neutral position regarding position to take a charge.

This is Nick Wiggins time! He will score as often as HCGM allows him to.

              • I watched a little bit of the Michigan-Wayne State exhibition game this evening.

The game was NOT called like any of the other games I've honed in on so far. So, is the big bad Big Ten, who specializes in physical, low-scoring drag-out fights immune to the new rules? There was a lot of contact that has been called everywhere else that wasn't being called here.

If they're going to do this bullshit, they better do it to EVERYBODY. From Savannah State and Chicago State to Michigan and Kentucky.

Or just be normal, and revert things back to the way they have always been called.

                ... No really, deuces.

If those officials want to have a prayer of working the NCAA tournament, they'll call it as the NCAA wishes. If the Big 10 wants to ignore the changes, those teams will get a rude awakening in March.

He was always able to score, the problem was the guy he was responsible for guarding was scoring more.

Heck even their non-con away games could suffer. Not that they will play any non-con away games. :/
