Carlisle said Gal Mekel "battled his ass off" and has already become one of the team's better perimeter defenders.

A short OT aside about derrieres, battling or otherwise: I remember back before Cleveland had Jacobs Field for Indians baseball and they played in huge, empty Municipal Stadium down by Lake Erie, a baseball writer used to refer to their park as "Freeziar Azoff Stadium" (a name that could probably be used in San Francisco as well).

Anyway, back to Gal -- who would ever have thought when he first showed up at WSU that he'd someday be referred to as one of ANY team's better perimeter defenders? Maybe Marshall planted a seed back in that first season. Gal always had the right work ethic.

      • Or maybe no one in the NBA plays defense.

Or maybe the NBA has the NCAA's new rules which gives a lot of advantage to the offense.

          • I am really optimistic about Gal's chances for succeeding in the NBA. He just looks so comfortable and confident out there. Like others have alluded, I would never have imagined he would make it to this level, but I'm very happy for him and will be watching a lot more NBA games than usual this season.

            • Way to go, Gal.

Here's wishing you a long, healthy, and most successful NBA career.

And along with you and Toure, I would love to see every team in the NBA stocked with one or more Shockers in the near future.

Yeah, right, dizzle -- tell that to LeBron. Or to Gregg Popovich.

                • In the Mavs' most recent game, Gal played 23 minutes, was 5-7 from the field and finished with 11 pts, 6 assists, 1 TO. Not bad.

Toure' has suited up for one game so far (out of three) and hasn't received any playing time.

                  • Aside from an injury, I really don't expect Toure to play much this year. Just too much experience in front of him, and he's just a rookie looking to learn the system and get better as a player. This is really one heck of an opportunity for Toure to get some great coaching from the staff, and some great coaching from the years of experience in front of him on the lineup. Something tells me that from past experience watching him develop at WSU, Toure will take full advantage of his situation.

                      • This shows the the MVC has one. They aren't considering one of the two.

Well, just how pathetic does the MVC look?

                          • Gal and the mavs are on NBA tv right now, Lakers cant stop Gal from getting to the lane, so far he has 2 points and 2 assist ( should be 3) in his first 2 minutes

They (the media- as usual) didn't do their research. Kyle Korver, Gal, Toure, and Tolliver all played in the MVC. There are more that were cut recently . Most of these guys half-ass their research and never get called on it. It's not just the Bleacher Report.

                              • Gal with a personal 5-0 run to stretch the lead back to 20 at the time. Still has THE slowest release in the history of the game.

But he is fun to watch with the ball.

Gal excels in being a good teammate...getting the ball to those that are open and if not open, getting to them in places they are to excel. And he has just enough flash to bring the crowd to their collective feet.

                                Well done young man.
