True, but losing your court general is one loss that hurts the most. And TN doesn't have a decent contingency plan in place to make up for this loss either. I won't count them out, they'll still be good and still be a tough test for us, but my prediction of them being a top 10 team just flew out the window.

    • if we lost Armstead...I think people would be singing a diffrent tune, and our record would have definitely reflected his loss, thats the past and what happen was a Final 4...thats how our chapter was written...GOSHOX

They really do not have a backup PG. I believe all their guards were listed as SG when recruited. Washpun was their backup as a freshman, until he left last year(?).

        • For those hoping to continue playing VCU, they might be wanting a better chance at a win. It appears they are starting a home and home next year with Illinois State.

That could be an RPI killer. Why do a H/H? They probably could have bought them for a home game only.

On the other hand, that's a nice add to the Valley schedule.

            • bye-bye, vcu. hello, duke, ucla, indiana et al (on a neutral court, or maybe even at their place, one and done). it has to happen! gonzaga did it!

Why not think big? It doesn't cost any more.

I don't think VCU has yet reached a point where they can simply buy out mid-level MVC teams. They can try, but it wouldn't surprise me if they received a bunch of "no thanks" in return. I would have loved to see them on WSU's schedule, but it doesn't surprise me at all to see them start a series with ISU. You are correct about this being good for the MVC SOS.

I'm sure the "no thanks" is received often, however, WSU was able to attract UAB to CKA in 2007 I believe. At the time, WSU would not have compared to VCU now and UAB was probably regarded as good or better program than Ill St. Even though we now have the advantage of a "neutral" court, we again got UAB plus a good Southern Miss. Guess I was just surprised that VCU would go for a H/H against an Ill St on the recent decline and who lost a ton from their roster this year. Just seemed like a dangerous away game for VCU, from an RPI standpoint.

                    • WSU bought UAB. I think Southern Miss was essentially bought, but a promoter, weren't they?

                        A promoter did both games.

WSU bought the first UAB game and it was at CKA. The second game with UAB and the Southern Miss games were done by a promoter and held at our "neutral" site with no return games.

My point was that VCU has the same capabilities, if they wished to. Use their own arena which seats 7,500 or use the Richmond Coliseum which seats 13,500. Therefore, I was surprised that VCU, given their recent success of 5 NCAAs in 7 years including a F4, would do a H/H with a potential/likely 100+ RPI team (maybe 150+) that could hurt more than help their own RPI.

In other words, is this matchup what you would want for a BrackBusters where you have to return the visit?

Not a major point but I think that your history is mistaken. WSU thought about buying the first UAB game for $125,000 played at IBA (none at Koch) but found a promoter that would pay WSU too for the game. Your premise that UAB was willing to do a buyout is correct but I'm pretty sure the game had tone done at IAB for USB to come.

We have played UAB twice. The first time was in 07-08, it was at CKA, we won 61-52, and there was no return game. That's why I thought the "promoter" game of UAB wasn't that big of deal, and said so here at the time, because we had already had them recently for a one and done, and people wouldn't look a the game as something special to pay extra for.

                              • The UAB buy game at Koch Arena was the infamous "Ice Game."
