Correct, that is why I said we can schedule 5 more in addition to the 8 already on the slate. If it weren't exempt, we would only have 2 more openings.

I got it now. Is this figured on an 18 game or 16 game MVC schedule?

18 games. Would be interesting to see what would happen if the league stays at 9 for a year, though. Seems likely we'd just add a couple cream puffs for extra revenue.

I think we'd take advantage of the two extra games and our national spotlight and try to find a couple of TV games. We should have an idea of what's going on with the conference in the next few weeks.

Maybe, just depends on what happens with the other games. Say we fill 5 slots in the next month with 2 marquee matchups and 3 buy games. If the MVC's recommendation for adding whoever falls through and we stay at nine members, I'd be stunned if we used those games to add another couple non-revenue contests.

On the other hand, if we somehow have a hard time finding more than 1 top team to play us in the 5 initial openings, then I could definitely see us traveling wherever.

I'd like to see more with our peers: Mtn West, A10, AAC, new Big East on equal or favorable terms of course.

                What is the "Brooklyn idea"?

There has been talk that we have been in discussions with the Barclay Center? in Brooklyn. They're trying to become a big player in college basketball and it sounds as if they'd like to get us in for a game against someone

Hard to believe VCU and the Shocks aren't chomping at the bit to do a home and home series if for no other reason than the winner of that game seems to come away with some major positive karma.

Here's my suggestion, offered free of charge to the folks in Brooklyn (and to anyone in the WSU athletic department lurking out there for the benefit of our wisdom):

On a Saturday early next season, a Final Four rewind: afternoon games between WSU and Louisville, and Michigan and Syracuse. No one in the northeast watches college football anyway, so saturday afternoon is perfect timing. Then, if they really want to get ambitious and the teams' schedules permit, they could even turn it into a four-team tournament: sightseeing in the Big Apple on Sunday, then Monday early (maybe 6pm Eastern) a third-place game, followed by a prime-time battle between the Saturday winners.

                        You're welcome.

Seriously, why doesn't some promoter who has an arena available try to set up a four-team tournament every year with the previous season's Final Four teams? Just too hard in terms of teams' scheduling and tournament commitments?

maybe we can get in on one of those aircraft carrier games.

I think you could do the same thing with multiple year's worth of Final Four teams. Basically all four of this years teams, plus all the non-repeats from the year before, and then selected teams to fill repeats from two years ago. So you'd have:

                            Louisville
                            Syracuse
                            Michigan
                            Wichita State
                            Kentucky
                            Kansas
                            Ohio State
                            Butler/UConn/VCU

Call it the "Tournament of Champions," or someone non-copyrighted variation given that a generic name like that is probably taken. This would give you three games and a VERY exciting tournament field. You'd relive the upset stories, see dominant teams looking to repeat, and have a bunch of story lines.

That'd be really good. Of course, last year it got rained out.

The thing we really, really need to do is get College Gameday to CKA. It needs to happen. Find a marketable game, and then try to get them to pick it up.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.
