"I really don't believe I have ever read an article by someone less knowledgeable about the subject.

I have no complaint about defending Gal Mekel because I too believe he was ragged on a little too much in the first couple games after Matt got hurt. However, the ramblings about Coach Marshall were unreal, not to mention his lack of understanding that someone who scores 7 points with excellent offense but gives up 12 by not playing defense is not really helping the team.

Ryan obviously needs to report on something he has a clue about."

You should be equally critical of the posters on SN who want or wanted JT to play more.

I'm glad you finally decided to show up Ryan. Why don't you explain to everyone why you're calling for HCGM's job and claiming he's being out-coached every game?

You are as much in error as he is. He wrote (in the actual, printed Sunflower): "There is now a cloud of speculation surrounding the program. Will Marshall stay or will he go?" You don't find this to be even "close to an intelligent thought"? ???

Thanks, I missed that. I agree that he got a lot of things wrong but the initial reaction was completely negative. My guess is that he posts here and many of his comments reflect views here; maybe he just lifted ideas from SN??

I finally read the entire article and guess what - I agree with several of his points. I was ashamed of how the crowd and some posters here treated Gal Mekel. Anyone want to dispute Ryan (Cornelius) on this point?

People here have asked why JT has not received more playing time. While both sides (more time / less time) can make good arguments, his opinion is a supportable one and he is entitled to his opinion.

There is a "cloud of speculation" surrounding Marshall's status after the season ends. We can all find threads here on this topic. Ryan's comment is competely appropriate.

Of course, Ryan gets many things wrong. We don't need to get rid of Gregg Marshall, we don't need Tad Boyle back here (although we would welcome him back as an assistant/associate head coach), we are not being outcoached, he fails to mention our injuries, etc.

just to defend those of us that wanted Gals head...: He hasn't always been solid.
before matts injury I felt Gal was subpar.

after stepping up, I am more than fine with the way he has been playing.

previous to the injury to Matt, Gal was questionable. doing alot of head scratching plays.
and STILL I don't see a lot of defense coming out of him.

but thats enough criticism.
I'm very happy with Gal and proud of the way he has gained confidence and maturity through the middle part of the season.

Gal is unfairly criticized I have stated this on this board.
And I do believe JT shouldnt play extended minutes because of his crappy defense. That is actually the first time I have stated this on the board.

Perhaps the backlash from this article will teach him to do more research into a topic instead of just reading a few posts from a fan message board. You should NEVER call for a coaches job, or say he's being out coached, when you're more easily replaced than he is.

I agree but I'm not a Missouri State fan. Ryan wrote a bad article but I suspect that it reflects his frustration at the team's record and performance. Rather than being opposed to basketball, I think he is a WSU fan who is frustrated and upset at the way the season is going. Of course, nobody here would ever feel like that. Right? Ryan dealt with his frustration by writing a poor article. I'm sure glad that the fans on ShockerNet didn't have a meltdown over the article but addressed the article on its merits and demerits.

Ryan wants to talk about what ails the team, fine.

He wants to question the coach....maybe. I'd be willing to wager that Gregg Marshall is better at coaching than Ryan WILL EVER BE AT ANYTHING, but hey, that's just my opinion. However, considering Ryan gets paid next to nothing (if anything at all) to write for the Sunflower and Gregg is paid 3/4 of a Mil to do his job.....I'll let others decide what that means.

Now when he calls for the coaches job....that's uncalled for ESPECIALLY when it comes from the student newspaper and after only 2/3 of his first season. It is irresponsible and wrong, pure and simple. Saying it's "an opinion" is like me saying that the sun rising in the west is "my opinion".


Lastly, the fact that it is not clearly marked an Editorial is an error. Either it's someone's opinion or it is factually based. Very little of the article is factually based. It is mostly opinion.


Spangler, I'm not sure about a lot of things but if Ryan gets called into someone's office and dressed down there isn't going to be a "world of bad press". This ain't San Francisco. Most of us have some common sense and understand right from wrong is not tough for the vast majority of people in this area.


Maybe Ryan doesn't get called out....but if not his editor certainly needs to be.
