Thank goodness the fans were cheering the Shockers at the end of the last game, so HCGM knows that this "writer" is just part of the lunatic fringe with absolutely no basketball knowledge that every college team unfortunately has and in NO way represents Shocker fans.

Sadly, all of you saying Beggs and Schaus will come down on him are mistaken.

The Sunflower will defend him to the death than acknowledge he's a crappy writer. No action will be taken, and he will be made a regular feature...

If it's their goal to make their sports writers a total joke that no Shocker fan will take seriously they will acomplish their goal completely.

I read the first line of the article and I agree with "Baseball season can’t get here soon enough." I didn't bother to read any further because it could only go downhill from there. ;-)

If he has no idea who's coming or what's going on then maybe he should have kept his laptop shut. At the very least, he could have done some research into who is coming in next season instead of just calling for HCGM's job. That's what I call "lazy journalism."
Or considered the fact that our head coach was left with this situation. It was not he who got us to this point.

The thing that really peevs me off about this article is that he doesn't even give any suggestions on how to help the team. He basically just wants us to bring in the exact same guys and fire HCGM. Oh, and bring back Ogirri and his 9 points a game. Its like he hasn't even seen the team play this season.

The Sunflower has always been poorly written and misinformed when it comes to the sports section. After a home win last year they included a picture of Matty B during a game to go along with the article. However, the picture was actually from the previous year and wasn't even a home game!(You could actually see the Missouri State Logo in the middle of the floor) Of course, the sports editor tried to pass the picture off as if it was taken the night before. Then later in the year, they were previewing the up coming baseball season and were saying how Andy Dirks was the key to our success and then included a picture of Dirks batting. Once again, they added a bogus picture because Dirks hadn't even played a game for the Shox.(The picture was of a player from a few years ago who just happened to wear the same number, the batter in the picture was right-handed, Dirks bats from the left side) If they hired sports editors with half a brain, these mistakes would have never happened.

Ironically enough, in the same issue of the Sunflower in which Cornelius bashes the team, there is a big ad urging readers to call the Sunflower's uView hotline with any comments they have regarding the paper. Apparently not enough people are calling the hotline, so they aren't able to add the opinions to the uView section of the paper. So lets give them something to write about, Call the Sunflower's uView at 978-6909.

This is not going to happen. (And if it did, WSU would get a world of bad press.)

I finally read the entire article and guess what - I agree with several of his points. I was ashamed of how the crowd and some posters here treated Gal Mekel. Anyone want to dispute Ryan (Cornelius) on this point?

People here have asked why JT has not received more playing time. While both sides (more time / less time) can make good arguments, his opinion is a supportable one and he is entitled to his opinion.

There is a "cloud of speculation" surrounding Marshall's status after the season ends. We can all find threads here on this topic. Ryan's comment is competely appropriate.

Of course, Ryan gets many things wrong. We don't need to get rid of Gregg Marshall, we don't need Tad Boyle back here (although we would welcome him back as an assistant/associate head coach), we are not being outcoached, he fails to mention our injuries, etc.

The article made me think that Ryan Cornelius reads ShockerNet several times per day.

I have no problems with the things he actually got right, such as Gal and Durley (even though we all should know why JT doesn't play more, he doesn't play very good defense and HCGM doesn't like his lack of effort on that side of the ball). Its the things he got terribly wrong that I have a problem with. Calling for a coaches job in a University ran newspaper isn't a very good idea, opinion or not. Saying the team shoots too many 3's, then wanting a player back who did nothing BUT shoot 3's is idiotic. Bringing forth a view that we're being out-coached every game is only something someone who doesn't know a thing about basketball would say. How can you be out-coached when your team shoots 25% each game? How can you be out-coached when you have only 8 players who aren't injured?

Its the same article. Your "hidden quote" is in the online version as well:

There is now a cloud of speculation surrounding the program. Will Marshall stay or will he go?

                              2nd to last paragraph.

                              When you say things like:

If you’re looking for someone to be mad at, be mad at Gregg Marshall. The Shockers are losing games not because they are being outplayed, but because they are being out-coached on a nightly basis.
                              and

Maybe we should chase Marshall out of town, bring back Tad Boyle who left for Northern Colorado and start from scratch. We can find a new Matt Braeuer down in Texas, get another P.J. Couisnard, one who takes control of more games, bring back Sean Ogirri and stop whining about Gal Mekel. Perhaps then we will see a return to greatness or at the very least win half of our Valley games.
People tend to forget the things you actually got correct and remember the things you got horribly wrong.

This was my response back to Ryan:

"I really don't believe I have ever read an article by someone less knowledgeable about the subject.

I have no complaint about defending Gal Mekel because I too believe he was ragged on a little too much in the first couple games after Matt got hurt. However, the ramblings about Coach Marshall were unreal, not to mention his lack of understanding that someone who scores 7 points with excellent offense but gives up 12 by not playing defense is not really helping the team.

Ryan obviously needs to report on something he has a clue about."
You should be equally critical of the posters on SN who want or wanted JT to play more.
