  • ADES Crossroad... What's next?

ADES seems to be at a crossroad on multiple fronts regarding not only his legacy, but the future of WSU athletics.

    1. What response will WSU have in regard to a possible MVC implosion? Does the MoVal lose some of its prestige with the possible CU departure, and what does ADES do to protect WSU due to its affiliation with the MoVal?

    2. HCGM has stated numerous times that his job at WSU is fantastic. Will that change if the MoVal drops in stature and becomes a one-bid conference? Will HCGM depart for a tougher conference? What does ADES do to retain HCGM?

    3. Has he used his leverage with Elgin to promote the MoVal, shed its weak members and replace them with the likes of Butler, St. Louis, Depaul, retain Creighton..., and endeavor to increase TV revenue. Or is Elgin and ADES simply taking the role of victims?

    4. What is the game plan for HCGS and the baseball program?

The rumors of CU departing the MoVal clearly illustrates that a conference MUST become stronger, with better facilities, increased budgets, and top notch coaches, or they risk not being able to be in the discussion of improving their position in the national spotlight.

Seek the truth or hide your head in the sand. Both require digging. What is ADES doing?

Would be nice to at least get a little nugget on what may be going on here, but not holding my breath for anything drastic happening.

I see at least one year with 9 Valley teams in the near future.

      1. Yes. The Missouri Valley is a shell of what it used to be, and Creighton leaving further erodes the Valley's standing. It will still be better than the SWACs of the world, but it not be better than the 9th or 10th best conference. I think we might be able to get at-large bids in the future, but I struggle to see any other Valley team doing that well.

      2. See above. If we play better than the rest of the Valley, it won't matter.

      3. Probably not. The MVC is controlled by the poor sisters. We might try and get Dayton if they don't join the A10, but otherwise the Valley has little interest in getting stronger.

      4. Wait until retirement, try and find a replacement. Or something like that.

If the Valley has one year with only nine teams I hope it's because the Shocks are in the MWC

I do believe you are talking about strategic planning.

I do not believe AD Sexton is a trailblazer. He will not be a bell cow, but he would follow a strong leader.

I believe AD Sexton is a don't make a wave kind of guy. Can't we all get along. Reactive, not pro active.

If AD Sexton engaged in some ground breaking forward planning, he would do so with a lot of meetings and a lot of input from others. He would proceed with cautious caution.

I am trying to be a 'No news is good news' type of guy until CU bolts officially and a few months after that.

In another llifetime I was responsible for all classified materiel for out squadron. I was privy to all of the really cool stuff as it pertained to our mission and to some pretty cool stuff that didn't. I would read and distribute everything on a "need to know basis". Everyone wanted to know the scoop but they DIDN'T need to know. Big difference. I would LIKE to know what our plans for the future are but for some reason I don't think I am on the NEED to know list.

This where anyone that is not an administrator or maybe a very large donor finds themselves.

I lean towards your thinking. This will likely tell if ADES is the kind of athletic director we want him to be, or if he's just warming a seat.

If anything is going on behind the scenes with us, there will eventually be some sort of leak. Too many people will be involved and too much going on for everything to stay quite until that moment. As long as there are zero rumors out there, I'll believe that there's little going on. Now, if that's due to a leader who is incompetent or due to there just being no options is up to everyone to debate.

If there is anything going on, its not more than 2 or 3 people doing anything at this stage. Not too hard tp keep things quiet. Especially given the implications if info was to leak.

As long as WSU remains in the MVC, the conference will be at least a 2-bit league. WSU will win the regular season with a great record and get an at-large bid. WSU won't be able to win the MVC tournament, so the winner of that will be the other bid.

Remember what double jay alum said about big doogie? Said if he knew anything he could not discuss it? I think if anything is going on here, that it is 'eyes only'. Incidentally, I agree with Ricardo. Except I don't think ADES would be allowed to freelance, he may also be a little hamstrung because Bardo is relatively new. As for me, I wouldn't even be considering freelancing without Bardo's approval, as it would certainly be a CEM.

Not sure how much free-lancing regarding conference affiliation ADES can do even if he wanted to. My understanding is that these kind of decisions will not be made at the AD level. They will be made by the President and/or Board of Trustees. That doesn't mean ADES won't be intimately involved. He will, but he won't be the ultimate decision maker in this particular matter.
