ADES Crossroad... What's next?

The sky is not falling if CU leaves the conference. Yes, there may be a perception hit based on their recent success, but if McDermott leaves after this year where would you pick them next year?
MVC has been a good conference when CU was in the abyss and will be a good conference if they are not in it. MVC needs WSU to stay good and BU, ISUR and SIU to get better. I also think that MVC could help itself on who they potentially replace CU with - whether it is just 1 team or an expansion.
Also, I'm not sure that CU is for sure thing. I imagine there are alot of bean counters at CU trying to predict what beans they will gain and what beans they will lose by joining this new conference. This may be a basketball move, but will impact their whole athletic department.
I think ADES has some options with the replacement of baseball coaching staff. There is well known alumni, in the coaching business that are options. These guys would likely be stable guys who are here because they love the program they built during their time and will want to bring it back to prominence. And there is no reason why they should fail - that is what is so confounding about the present regime, because they shouldn't be failing either.Last edited by SB Shock; March 4, 2013, 07:59 PM.

I'm not confident in "the other half" championing us around to better conferences like he should. I figured somebody would have at least made it known what our general intentions are as far as WSU athletics' future goes. Nothing though. And I have serious doubts whether anything is being done "behind the scenes".Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

One thing: I think either Dayton or Saint Louis will be not make it to the C7 league. Saint Louis would be fine staying in the A10, but Dayton may decide to make the jump to a more geographically fitting conference. There tie to the A10 is Xavier, and I don't think they would have too much reason to stay in the A10 without them or SLU. The MVC might have to pay their exit fees though ($2 million without a year's notice, $1 million with).
With Dayton, you have a program supported as stronger Creighton. In fact, they probably have more support than Creighton, given their $10 million in revenue and great attendance numbers without a corresponding product on the court. I think Wichita State would be fine if Dayton replaced Saint Louis.

The Pioneer Football League that Dayton and Drake participate in might be something WSU should look at to perhaps get football restarted and see how it goes without having to bet the bank, although football facilities are an issue at WSU.

Kevin Hooper would be at the top of my list for baseball head coach."Political Correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media,
which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Elgin will go after SLU like Romeo went after Juliet. SLU will not play the role of Juliet. When Elgin falis to win the faovrs of SLU, he will follow the history of the Valley and fall on his sword by inviting UMKC. WSU, in yet another effort to not appear passive/aggressive, will settle for being passive/passive and continue to ride the Valley's descent into obscurity as an ebbing tide sinks all ships.
If I appear to be negative, try to find one time in the history of the Valley that when a team left, the team brought in to replace them was not a downgrade. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

I would say that Southwest Missouri was an upgrade over West Texas State. The timing wasn't exact as WTSU left in 86 and SMS joined in 1990.
Generally you are correct. Evansville "replacing" Tulsa. I don't know why UNI was added, but they certainly have had some success.
To beat the dead horse, the geographic footprint is a problem. Who else could have/should have been added? Butler? Until five years ago, I think most folks would have poo pooed that addition too.
And let's also remember, that most years the MVC is the 2nd best non-BCS conference after the Mountain West. So not everything has been bad about the MVC.

First off, SLU and Dayton aren't on the table. If the reports are accurate, they'll go to the C7 a year later. So there's no sense even considering them.
UMKC is NOT getting an invite. From what little I've read about speculation from newspapers/bloggers is that the three favorites would be ORU, Valpo and Belmont as there would be a desire to replace a private with a private. Are any of them an upgrade over CU? No. Would any of them be able to compete in the upper half of the conference? Probably all three. Could they improve witht the backing of a better/stronger conference? That can be debated.
And lets not forget that other MVC schools are improving. Bradley is the one to watch. SIU will get better under Barry. And Improving the middle to back end of the MVC can do just as much for the top of the conference as who we add. SOS and RPI numbers are helped when the lesser teams aren't a huge drag.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
