I worked late tonight so I didnt here the call from Mike Kennedy. What exactly happened (land wrong, foot planted and it just gave way, etc.)?
From MK's description of the play, he got bowled over (literally) by UNI's Jared Josten. MK was livid that Josten could barrel into the late, pass off and knock over THREE of our players without having a foul called.
The refs were terrible tonight. Just awful!! (Just like normal for MVC refs.)

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

The entire game was poorly called. A better called game might have reined in the UNI players and reduced the likelihood of the accident.

Hopefully, Mantas never has to face years of hyalgan injections for OA.

          Good luck Mantas.

I think I still have some eligibility left - do you think a hefty 5'9" 40 year old with poor eyesight and questionable knees would cut it? I'd be good for at least 1/4 of a trip up the floor! Or does that just qualify me to be a ref?
Oh hellz yeah. Every team needs a 'bruiser', who can go out and hard foul some players when need be, say putting some players on the foul line, etc.
I'd kill 'em! Then I'd do my Necessary Roughness "gonna get me some poi" sack dance. :yahoo:
For erik coleman thats the truffle shuffle!!!!! lol.

            seriously though...

So will he be able to bounce back from this for next year? Doesn't he already have a previous knee injury? Guess coach needs to probably start looking for another 3 man.

Yes, he did have a prior knee injury.

However, as others have stated his career could be over. Just depends upon the severity of the injury and his rehab. I really feel bad for this kid. Even with the slow start, I thought he could be a real contributor to this team. However, at this point I just hope he gets better. Whether or not he plays again is the least of my concerns.

What a terrible break for the young man. We can only wish him the best for his future.

He could be back since the knee he injured last night is not the same one he injured previously.

Just what this program needed - another unknown.

                    - Braeuer
                    - Orukpe
                    - The unmentionable job opening
                    - And now Mantas (but our woes pale in comparison to his)

The way I saw it was that Phil tried to take the charge from Josten's drive and when he flopped he fell back into Mantas' knee.

In my honest opinion if a foul should have been called it should have been on Phil for a flop.

There were some charges that were not called. I did not think this was a charge. Sounds to me like this injury will take longer than 12 months to rehab.

Things like this really bring things back into perspective for me. I love wsu and I love college basketball. That said It really sucks when something like this happens. It really makes me realize whats important. Thats the young men willing to go out and tear their bodies up for a chance at an education and the opertunity to entertain us fans. The coaches for taking on such situation with a commitment to make the best out of it and help these kids turn into great men. Wsu isnt what it is without the great kids and coaches and administators behind it. basketball isnt what it is without these folks. That being said wsu and basketball isnt what important today. Whats important today is that our thoughts go out to all involved in making things so great. Life can be a real ***** and anyday and anytime anything can happen. Any of us can be gone tomorrow. My thoughts and appreciation go out to all that have been a part of this program and university. Mantas get well bud we are all behind you and the team. Coach hang in there. This year has been brutal but again we are all behind you and appreciate everything you have done and are doing to keep heads up and make things better. Your efforts have not been lost on me. I'd encourage everyone to take a minute and think about whats important to them today and be appreciative that you have it.

Man, are we cursed or what ? Just think about what all has happened since CGM has been here:

                              Guy passes away
We pretty much loose our '07 recruiting class
                              EO is a no show
                              Brauer's concussion
                              Mantas ACL / MCL
                              Brett M. concussion

                              And I'm sure I'm missing a few.

The players are still playing hard and going on. We really need to keep supporting the team. Even more than we have. If you think that this is tough on us, it's got to be killing morale within the team and coaching staff.

Keep fighting Shocks...we're still with you !!!

With a few exceptions, the core of the Shocker team remained healthy for several years. I can only remember a few injuries where a player missed more than one or two games:

Holman - most of a season.
Braeuer last year - 3 games?
Durley last year (though it's tough to say how much he would have contributed)

I know Howard had a nagging back one season, but I don't recall him missing much.

Hogg's knee one year limited his minutes.

But for the most part, the Shocks have avoided the major injury bug. I guess this year we're making up for all those healthy years.
