  • Pin,
You may dislike him, but he is one of the Top 10 officials in the country.

If you can name 10 who are better, please let me know who they are.

I will forward your list onto Eddie Jackson, who I'm sure would like to know too.
Above all, make the right call.

You can not go on video alone. We don't know what was said or who, if anybody, said anything.

Technical fouls are issued for unsportsmanlike conduct & that certainly includes verbal altercations just as much as the physical kind.

Higgins was right there in the middle of it and was in the best position to make a call based on what he saw & heard.
My whole issue with Higgins, Ref, is that he seems to call our games different that he does BCS school games. The second half yesterday was a little better.

        Please set me straight.

These technical fouls were not a game maker or breaker. Why waste any breath on this issue. It was not a title fight and the issue is SO over.
This is not a Hatfield vs Mccoy squabble, this is a basketball game lol.

I think the MVC broadcast always play-up the strengths of the underdog. It makes the inevitable win by the supperior team more "impressive" to the casual fan who may be tuning in. This seems to be the formula for any two teams on ESPNU / FoxSports...

            • DWill did take the first step towards Lemon and stopped. Lemon went way out of control but DWill was running his mouth, even after the T was given. Who knows what was said but I doubt he was innocent in it.

I watched the game at a friends house and neither one of us thought the officiating was all that poor. Were the calls that we didn't fully agree with? Sure, there are always going to be. The charge on Cle was brutal. I don't know what Borowksi was thinking. Especially when he held like he was waiting to see if he was going to count the basket. But all in all, it wasn't a horribly officiated game. My friend used to officiate and now coaches HS basketball if that matters. I was surprised when I got on here and saw all the complaining and I watched the replay last night and didn't see anything that made me feel like it was poorly officiated.

                  • That was one of the most complimentary articles I can ever remember from an opposing teams towns newspaper.

                    • Something I thought interesting was the minutes played.

                      Shox: 33 - 29 - 29 - 24 - 24 - 18 - 16 - 16 - 11
                      Braves: 37 - 35 - 35 - 30 - 28 - 21 - 7 - 7

The 5 Shocker starters played a total of 139 minutes versus 165 minutes by the 5 Braves starters. Did the Shox have just a little more energy left the last few minutes of the game due to the depth and the extra minutes the Braves starters had played?

More interesting numbers from the game taken from the PJ Star.

"Bradley matched the Shockers in being tough-minded and relentless. A lot of the stats in the box score were as even as the score: Wichita State won the paint 32-30, Bradley won points off turnovers 15-14, the Shockers shot 47.4 percent, the Braves 46.3, they tied on turnovers (14 each) and fast-break points, 8-8."

That does not mention the 32 - 31 rebounding totals.

Can a game get any more even than that?

For me, it was just an amazing game to watch. I think Geno has the program headed in the right direction and I look forward to Bradley being a force in the league again. The more really good teams we have in the league, the more chance the league will have for at-large bids to the Dance. Also, having to dig deep to win a game like this one can only help later when the Shox have games that come down to the wire. They proved that they know what it takes to win a strongly contested game against a lot of adversity.

                      • The OFFICIATING was not GOOD .
Cle was blocked anybody should be able to see the defender not set in the right position and twisting and leaning to get contact, that was a BLOCK

White did touch the ball last ,, but the call was wrong from the start ,, it SHOULD HAVE BEEN a foul on BU for over the back and knocking the c rap outa White ,, witch is why I think the call went to wichita on the outa bounds ,, because the ref knew it should of been a foul , but as was evident the wistle was being choked on for BU , evident in the Double bonus for BU and 2 PF for Wichita,, NO WAY IN THAT PHYSICAL A GAME BU did not foul at least as many as wichita,,, (home cookin)

The T call well ,, I have never agreed with a double T unless both players really go at it, (pointless) should be a T on the clear instigator, as long as the reciving player does not completly over react to bein abused.

Just my 2 cents , wether ya agree or not IDC ,,, good W move on now

                          • That call has always interested me. the foul on the back (in this case White), the ball goes off his fingers out of bounds and yet he gets the ball back instead of the foul. You see this call at middle school, high school, college, etc. Why don't they just call the foul? This is a serious question, is this taught? Mandated?

Most of the time, the referee, as in this case, isn't able to see what contact happened behind the 6'7 White, but knowing he was vertical, contact happened, and that contact caused him to lose control of the ball, they give the benefit to the team that should have the ball.

I don't always agree with it, as it varies based on position. But overall it is pretty consistent call, and consistent is what I care about.

@ShockRef: - My issue with Higgins isn't good or bad calls. He rarely MAKES a bad call. My issue is his inconsistency recently. He seems to be taking over the games like Hightower or the other Valley regular that you see blasted on here a lot. Prosser extends elbows against EO to get inside position on the inbounds, no call. EO fights for a rebound, there is light contact that doesn't affect the outcome of the play, and you get a whistle.

                                2) Not sure about all the Higgins bitching. Yes, he missed the ball going off Pickett after the Early block, but other than that he was fine.
                                3) WSU caught a break on the White call. He clearly touched the ball going out.

Reading this forum after the game, I thought Fever had 3 aneurisms - during the 1st half!

Cotton is just a basketball player. He is this years version of GH; the guy who gives up his body to help his team win.
His hustle and save of the shot going out (which lead to the Early trey) & decision to kick it to Williams for the lay in +1 was the death nail to BU.

I almost got a Cold-like man crush after those two plays, but that just wanders way too far into the weirdo zone.

Early is some kind of player. But he needs to remember that although he is a huge part of the machine, HCGM is and will always be the guy driving the bus.

Really fun to watch EO's confidence grow with each and every game. He understands his role and has learned to play to his strengths.

Good things continue to happen when DW is on the floor. He made the right decision to PLAY to win instead of HOPING they would win.

Do you think BU would have progressed to their current status if Les was still there coaching?
                                1. I would appreciate your opinion as well as Sub's on John Higgins' double foul call.

Regarding Higgin's call, this is what I posted on the MVCfans board:

Regarding the double foul on Lemon, Jr. and Demetric Williams.

John Higgins blew the call. He saw what appeared to be a scrum, so he got all excited and called a double foul.

Señora Rio and I watched a frame by frame replay. Williams played the ball all the way. His two hands were on the ball, until the whistle was blown. He was never an aggressor toward Lemon. On the other hand, Lemon became the aggressor, after the whistle was blown. He kept advancing toward Williams and initiated the contact. Williams grudgingly gave ground. Both players were yakking at each other.

John Higgins made the call, but he had a poor view of the play. He was on the baseline and behind Williams. There was another official off to the side. He was standing on the sideline. He had a perfect view of the play. He is the official, who called jump ball. Alas, he never went to Higgins and told him what he saw.

While Williams is perfectly capable of being the culprit in this scrum, he was not on this occasion.

                                2. Cotton = Playmaker

                                3. I agree with you in spades about EO's growth. It really is amazing. I have to give Cold an atta-boy for his early prediction of the magnitude of EO's value to the team. Most thought he would be helpful. Few thought he would be an impact player.

                                3. Both Malcomb and Demetric are gamers, but both make some inexplicable turnovers, which drives me nuts.
