Wichita State (11-7) at Memphis (14-4) Game Discussion: Jan 23 (Thu)

Was looking at the box score. At first glance it appeared that Harlond and Corey had pretty solid games combining for 29 points 55% of the Shocks scoring on 12-23 (2-5) from the field and 3-4 from the free throw line. Then my eyes saw the TO column. 6 turnovers for Harlond and 4 for Corey. Ouch.

Throw Q's 4-5 FGs and 2-2 FTs in the mix and those 3 guys combined to shoot 16-28 (2-5) from the field and 5-6 from the line for a total of 39 points. Q also grabbed 10 of the Shockers 32 rebounds. Q, Harlond and Corey had a combined total of 15 rebounds.

If you had told me those stats before the game and told me the Shocks would hold Memphis to 61 points I would have thought upset city even with the 10 turnovers by Harlond and Corey.

Didn't happen. The other 6 Shockers that got into the game could only manage 14 points 5-24 (1-11) and 14 rebounds as a group.

I did not watch, listen to or follow the game last night and was surprised when I saw the final score. Sure sounds like a pretty ugly game. Your going to need more than 3 guys show up to win. Gets back to my point that as a team this Shocker team seems to be worse than the sum of its parts. It's depressing.

I still can't get some of those turnovers out of my head. It's one thing when the other team intercepts a pass. It's something entirely different when you can't even dribble the ball and kick it to the other team all on your own.

It’s getting tougher and tougher watching a basketball team that relies on Justin Hill, Xavier Bell and Harlond Beverly as scoring options. Like I honestly think if you add Craig Porter to this team we would have 2-3 more wins.

It’s also crazy to me how Samaje Haynes Jones would probably be the best player on this team. Mills is coming back and we need to recruit a whole new roster. Next year will be very interesting (until we hit conference play and start 1-5 again)

The only reason this game was even as close as it was, is because Memphis totally sucked most of the game. They played down to our level until it was time to win. At no point was the outcome in doubt.

I've heard this phrase for years, "It's all about the basketball!" This team doesn't value the ball with a passion and frequently players make moves and literally leave it behind...... I won't even get into some of the passes.....Please, just please....Not mad, just exasperated

It’s just time for a coaching change. Penny brought in for recruiting elite high school ranks, that doesn’t matter anymore cause of NIL. Need a hard nose coach that holds his players to fundamental basketball, plain and simple.

Similar, not the same kind.

Two programs coming from totally different circumstances.

One program in a situation where first place in the AAC appears to not near be enough and where the program is most likely flush with funds. Also, looking for a higher rated conference to take them in and feel the current coach cannot get them there. Basically, greed.

The other program is looking to be reasonably competitive within the league they are in. Their AD hired a new coach, yet the results are not as good as they were before the hire. The program is not flush with funds due to multiple situations. Trying to get the program back to at least a reasonable level.

They also have a pretty high opinion of themselves w.r.t. the conference that they obviously wish they could graduate from. This headline being a good example.
