Same situation with Villanova. Don't get me wrong. Those are great wins for each, but overall body of work is still kinda mediocre with those 2. People are all over Nova with their wins but also forgot they have a loss to freaking Columbia, among others. So far, at least in my eyes, they pulled off a couple of fluky wins. We'll see how it pans out.
I'm thinking Indy st in the mvc tourney a few years ago. Got hot... Stile everyone's thunder and then laid down big time.

For any possibility of that happening the Shocks have to be totally focused on the task at hand from game to game and avoid getting too caught up in their press clippings. That's not an easy chore for a bunch of 18 - 22 year old youngsters. And even if they do that you never know when you will have an off-night shooting the ball and catch an opponent who is hot.

However, one thing (among many good attributes) about this Shocker team that's in their favor is that they just seem to have a strong distaste for losing.

      • Tomorrow is very important with a very nice ISUb team who beat Miami earlier in the year. I hope that the students come to the game prepared and game ready just like they have the past two games. This is a tough week with another road game to UNI where they are tough too.

And I'd put down money that if we went through a week where we lost at one of the lower half of the valley and at cu, we would be out of both polls.

          • I think the timing of playing a road game vs Mo St and Bradley at home (34 pt win or not) hurt us in the polls this week. If, for example, we would have played this week's schedule last week and come out 2-0 (vs. Ind St and @ UNI) ... then we probably would have gotten points in the polls. Happy to be where we are at and hope we can keep on climbin'!!!

            • It is too hard to know how we can win out woth the streaky shooting of the MVC. If we limit TOs, I like our chances.

I saw Kansas play in person a week ago. We match up well with them and I think could beat them more times than not. They have McLemore and that's about it, the bench is shallow. Withey is weak, Carl Hall would chew him up.

I think the chances of us winning out are better than ever being top-5 this year. I think we'd need to have had a true "splash" win - over a top-10 caliber team.

KU is a good example of a team that we probably would try out the "big" line-up that we still haven't seen. Probably something like Armstead/Cotton/Early/Hall/Orukpe. The match-ups would be pretty even, with us having the advantage at PG/SG/PF and them having an advantage at SG/C. I think Orukpe would have a decent match-up against Withey and if they neutralize each other we would win.

                    The questions would be:

Who can score more, McLemore or Early?
Can our guards force them into turnovers?
How well can we deal with Withey's defense?
How contained can we keep their secondary scorers?
Can our bench put enough points on the board to give us an advantage?

I'd say we match-up fairly well against them, as opposed to say a team like Michigan. From what I've seen, the top 15 is more about matchups than anything else, and no team is good enough to have a definite advantage against everyone else.

I gotta disagree here, if you think Carl Hall would chew Withey up you are wrong. I've seen KU in person 9 times, and I've only seen WSU 5 times due to location so I may be off basis with this. Withey gets away with Murder down low. He gets the benefit of the doubt on almost every single block he gets. Don't get me wrong some he gets are clean, but the Majority of them are with him with a ridiculous amount of body contact then a block up high. I've literally seen Withey land on a persons head while they are going up touch his hand on the ball and not get a foul call.

However, I will agree with your statement that we would beat them more times than not - as long as we don't give them atomic bombs that turn into a dunk for McLemore. Cotton can D up McLemore in the halfcourt easily. McLemore is poor to bad off the dribble. However, if you give McLemore any space his elevation will give him a clear shot at the rim. I've never seen anyone elevate like him in person, and I've seen DK plenty of times.

Malcolm would tear Elijah and Naadir up. They are playing really bad right now. Elijah seems to have lost athleticism from last year and his desire to do the little things to win does not seem very high. I don't know who would guard Releford, he's a near impossible match up forthis team. Having a guy like Ben Smith would really pay off if we were to play them this year in the tournament.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

We're still unranked by Eric Sproft, Roger Clarkson and Ron Morris.

                        • In that 15-16 range that makes for a real nice seeding.

EDIT: All 3 of them are from down south, 2 of them from South Carolina. Did Marshall piss them off down there or something? But seriously, they have some mental issues. Either that, or they have a major ax to grind.

Was going to mention the Southern bias connection here also.

Are they urinated off since he turned down USC?

                              Just asking...

                              That is all.
