Only three Division 1 teams have a perfect record against the RPI top 50 (minimum 2 games played):

    #15 New Mexico 6-0
    #20 Wichita State 3-0
    #3 Syracuse 3-0
    What does this really mean?

Would it not be better to be 3-2 against top 50 instead of 3-0 against top 50 and 2 losses against 2 teams hanging right around 100?

Ironically, with the way the committee's Nitty Gritty sheet is formatted, it's probably better to dump your losses outside that range (as long as there are only a few).

Record vs. Top 50 RPI has been the most cited statistic by both the talking heads leading up to Selection Sunday and the committee itself over the last couple years. Florida State's seed last year is a perfect illustration (had HUMILIATING 200+ RPI losses, but killed it against the top of the ACC and was gifted a 3 seed).

It is also the easiest cut-off point that's frequently used to justify excluding mid-majors because of weak schedules. I am sure this has contributed to its popularity.

Way to early in those games to declare anyone in trouble. Let's hope things continue in that fashion, but not much to hang your hat on in those games at this stage.

              • Looks like Michigan is going to win by double figures at home.

VCU has its hands full at Richmond leading 59-56 with 3:00 minutes to go.

TN is leading Ole Miss 50-49 with 6:00 minutes to go.

                • VCU lead 63-56 with 0:40 remaining and now it is VCU 69 - Richmond 66 with 0:12 remaining. Richmond has the ball needing a 3-pointer to tie the game.

And Richmond gets the 3-pointer with 0:04 on the clock to send the game into OT.

Talk about extending the game. Richmond outcores VCU 13-6 in the final 40 seconds.

Went to see how much VCU ended up winning by since I saw that they had a decent lead at the end and was shocked to see that they went to OT and are down by 4 and Richmond has the ball with 3:36 left.

Woowwwww, how did VCU let that happen.

                        • UCLA up early at #6 Arizona by 17-3 six minutes in.

Make that 21-5 eight minutes in.

                          • Final in OT Richmond 86 - VCU 74

Not sure what happened to the vaunted havoc defense there at the end. They must have went to the prevent (us from winning) mode.

VCU gave up 30 points over the final 5:40 of the game. If my calculations are correct that is a pace that would produce 211 points over a 40 minute game.

Shocks may move ahead of VCU in the rankings but the RPI may take a little bit of hit with this one.

Wow. What kind of defense allow 13 points in the last 40 seconds of a game? It sounds like Richmond was playing havoc with VCU tonight.

VCU actually hit their free throws OK down the stretch going 6-8. Richmond hit 3-pointers with 18 seconds and 4 seconds remaining in the game, but the real killer may have been when VCU fouled Richmond on a 3-point attempt with 22 seconds remaining and the kid made all 3 free throws.

The OT was pretty much all Richmond.
