  • Cold confuses potential to become a major program with being a major program. Nebraska fans never cared about basketball even when they were good under Danny Nee. They have no tradition, no talent, no basketball fans, and no media support. What they have is money and conference affiliation.

His same argument could be applied to every single SEC and PAC-12 school. They are all awash in cash and could throw a lot of it toward basketball. That doesn't make them major programs.

    • Let's talk to the B1G. We'll let them keep UNL for FB, and then we'll swap UNL out of basketball. We'll take that spot in the B1G, where we'd be a pretty fair fit, and UNL can have our spot in the Valley, where they'd make a nice mid-pack team - and they could really exploit that rivalry with CU.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

      • I wouldn't consider Nebraska to be a high-major basketball program.

        • There are plenty of major programs that don't win big every year. In fact, of the 80 or so major programs out there, only a handful are consistent winners. A major program is defined by "major" attributes: fan base, money, facilities, television, conference membership, BCS'esque players (hard to define, but you know 'em when you see 'em) and tradition. BCS conference membership generally allows instant certification, however, as with schools like Gonzaga and Wichita State, having everything else BUT conference membership still demands a premium rating.

I can't include schools like BJ yet because before their city built and rented them a new gym, they had very low-major attendance and fanbase. Now they have high-major attendance (thanks to the municipal center), but how many of those patrons are BJ fans? I say most are bored Husker fans. Time will tell and I will definitely let Club BJ know when I approve them as a major program. They are definitely getting closer...

We are confusing some terms here...

            "Big-time" /= "Major"

Major is determined by cash, which is nearly always (not in the case of Wichita State) determined by conference membership, which offers lucrative television contracts. Nebraska is a major player by way of its cash and conference membership, fanbase, facilities, etc. etc. Is it a "big-time" basketball program? Probably not because that word starts to conjure up thoughts of winning.

Picking on non-winning majors like Nebraska is the folly of mid-major fans who look at Nebraska's record and say, "hey, we are better than they are." "Why are they called major and we are not?" Well I'll answer that question, it's because they deboard their private jet while you hop outta your Greyhound. They play on ESPN in front of millions while you play in an empty high-school gym. They go home to NBA-like sports therapy services while you grab a jar of Bengay and lather it on yourself. Their degrees are practically guaranteed due to the quality and comprehensiveness of their school's tutoring program, while you Googlebomb that essay of yours until the wee hours of the morning.

Wichita State = Major (Class of the Valley)

Evansville = Mid-Major (Ass of the Valley)

            • Rivals originated the terms...........Evansville might very well be low-major.

              • I think it may be beneficial to consider the university as a whole when determining whether a program is major or not, as opposed to suckitude.

                      • There are 18 undefeated teams left in D1. 7 of these 18 teams are from non - BCS conferences. The Shox have the 14th toughest SOS out of these 18 teams. The Shox's probability of running the rest of the non-con schedule is high. Has that ever happened?

And yes, should they lose in the next four games, you can blame me for jinxing them.
