This is not true. He wasn't guarding anyone.

I have a strange admiration for a guy who doesn't even *pretend* like he's going to guard an opposing player. No pretense, completely authentic. "I am not going to guard you, let the chips fall where they may." Kind of refreshing.

So the cretins only scored 37 points in the first 25 minutes of the game? Then outscored UAB 40-15 in the last 15 minutes of the game? So what happened? Did UAB fall apart? Or did the real cretin finally show up?

You know your stuff. Gibbs is the glue to this team and was last year as well. When Doug got in foul trouble in the first half (he only played about 5 minutes in the first half), Gibbs calmed the team down. He also ran the point during a large portion of the game since the backup PG, Yates, had the flu. He's not flashy, but has the highest BBIQ I've seen in a long time.

I respect the hell out of Gibbs. He was a great pickup for the BJs and is solid as hell. I'd take him over Jake Odom any day

I'm relieved to see he still can't guard a darn thing. I was a little worried that in his Junior year, his defense would greatly improve. I guess it really helps that he is terribly unathletic. I think our team (and whoever is in charge of guarding him) will have a fun time of shutting down Dougie. Now it's Echinique I'm a little worried about.

I think comparing him to jake Odum just came from my memories of jake running straight under the basket and then jumping as high as he can into a 180 and a kick out to whoever is the first inst jersey he sees. Any of our pgs would just shoot the thing in the basket. Jake Odum makes me chuckle like I said and I thought i saw Gibbs do one of those. It's really not a legit comparison.

Gibbs is one of those guys you would gladly take on your team. So is GE by the way. Odum is not

That wasn't directed towards you as they do share a few similarities in that regard. It had more to do with the belief of many in the MVC that Jake is a great talent. He is what he is. He doesn't suck, but he's far from great.

I didn't watch much of that game but one thing to take away from it is that CU can absorb a flat game from their star scorer and still win comfortably. A lot of teams would lose a game like that.

I don't get the Jake Odom obsession either. He's a long gangly point guard that causes some mismatches simply due to his length. He's not a great ball handler and a below average shooter. He gets steals with his long spindly arms and has the "drive under the basket/perimeter kickout" move down to a science. It will be fun to watch Armstead get a shot at him.

I don't even know if it's that he *can't.* He just *doesn't.* For all I know, he has the ability to be at least a serviceable defender, but he just doesn't seem to have any interest in doing it. The guy he was "guarding" last night just ran right around him like he wasn't there.

On another note, I re-watched the VCU game and it made me chuckle to see Demetric Williams could move just as fast laterally as the VCU players who were running full speed in a forward direction.

I'd say that most teams who ARE top ten would benefit from having a guy like Gibbs. He won't get the attention that Little Mac gets, or Elephantique, but he does indeed make everyone better, and you could make a reasonable case that he's Creighton's best all-around player.

Echenique is going to be a load all year inside for Creighton. They struggled some, but a loss last night to UAB at home would've been embarrassing for The Valley.

Illinois State and Drexel in a good one on NBC Sports (do you guys get that on Cox?), ISU up 57-56 with 14 minutes to go. Road game for the Birds.

Drexel's no VCU, but they're a good team. This is the kind of game the MVC needs to win if it wants to contend for 3 bids this year.

                                ISU-Drexel tied at 73 w/ 1:40 left to play. C'mon Redbirds.
