i think Washington will be great, and if there’s potential for some sort of two big man play between Ballard and the other 7 footer, I’d be intrigued to see it. There’s a lot that could be done with two 7 footers inside the paint.

This all being said, we’re so guard heavy this year that I anticipate some small ball play with Ballard defending the paint which has some potential.

Like you, I’m not quite there on next year. But I don’t think KP is the answer. I’m just waiting to see who the final two additions are as it’s gonna be really important to patch the holes. Thankfully, the most important hole is fixed at PG.

    That’s my rambling thoughts.
Its a little obsessive TBH. KP was a decent player, but he flat out gave up multiple times last year. He wasn't a good enough player to try to put up with that. That said .. i don't think the 7 footer that is visiting is the answer either. I know Bird in hand and all. I guess by the time he visits the portal will be closed, so the coaches will probably have a good idea if there are any other players that are even remote options for us. Would be nice to get a maybe little bit raw but younger big man prospect that can learn this year and take over for QB next year.

    • Yes, it's true, I have been overly focused on KP. Look back and you could see I was the same on A.M. Just my opinion I know but I don't think he should have ever lost a starting position especially since his early season numbers were very good. I believe losing his starting spot effected his game in a negative way especially mentally. I also believe the way PM used him did not maximize his potential of being both a double digit scorer and rebounder. Like A.M. I won't be surprised to see him do that next season where ever he plays including here. I just think he is a much better player than most of you realize. Doubt he will reconsider returning but in my estimation if used properly he could be a force and fills a couple of badly gaping holes right now. I have never met the young man and don't know anyone around him I am just one of the very few on here that liked his game and potential.

QB was clearly the better center. Mills tried them both at the same time and it didn't work. This isn't a Ricky Council/Joe Pleasant situation so you can't really blame Mills on that. Same would be true next year. If he needs to be starting to perform, it wouldn't happen next year here so its probably best for everyone for him to try a new place. He seems like a great kid and has some talent, he's just not to QB's level and I'm not sure he's a fit for what Mills needs.

        • I agree with some of what you say, however, can you explain to me why KP was almost always the guy PM relied on the last five critical minutes of close games instead of QB ?

Makes ZERO sense. PM ain't perfect.

I often wondered the same. My thought was PM was trying to improve the offensive sets but mostly ended up with little offense and no defense in the post. Especially the last month of the season…lose/lose.

I'm sure it was because HCPM was drawing up plays where he felt KP would find a cutter to the hole better than QB would.
That's the only thing I can imagine that move was made.

                  • Some players have been known for taking some plays off during a game. KP took entire games off from time to time.

I honestly have no idea. We also weren't very good at winning close games

                      • Where is Peppermint Patty? I wonder if KP may have suffered from some mental health issues. He did not seem to want to be out there during the second semester. There very well could be issues outside of basketball that impacted him.

So if someone is still out there in July AND would be eligible next year it’s because he either wasn't pursued or didn't make a decision for 2-3 months.
Except if the coach decides to not renew their scholarship at the end of the school year they won’t lose the eligibility, even if they didn’t enter the portal.

You sure? I thought they got rid of even that with the recent change. Even if so .. i doubt a player who is getting his scholarship pulled is someone worth holding a scholarship for.

Scholarships are renewed annually. July 1 is the notification date that must be met.

Players are told by coaches long before that though what is going to happen.
